Can I use this to put a hold on a credit card?
For instance, a hotel will ask for your credit card details to reserve your room. Here they will put a hold on your card for a certain amount which will only be taken out if something happens like not showing up, etc. Car rental companies will also use the same process.

Unfortunately it is not possible to do that with a payleven device at the moment. Payleven can be used to take face-to-face payments from the clients.

payleven runs identity checks, which means the information given in the application is checked against electronic databases. If no match is found, electronic copies might be needed.

You can send the receipt to the customer via email after the transaction has gone through or alternatively you could print it out via a wireless bluetooth printer (payleven is integrated with a couple of them, like Bixolon for example).

I live in N.ireland but sometimes make sales when I am in the south of Ireland will this work for my down there?

For the moment Payleven only works in the country where it is registered, as this is a security consideration imposed by the Partner Banks and uses the GPS coordinates in your iPhone or iPad. So in this case your device would only work in Northern Ireland or Great Britain.

It is currently not possible, at the moment you can only accept card payments when the customer is present. Card-not-present is a functionality in development however and should be added shortly.
