Yes you can. I would recommend an otterbox. I purchased the Otterbox Defender ( $100) a hefty price for a case, but it is really nice.

Yes, but it's not nearly as stable in portrait as it is in landscape, and not nearly as stable as the full-size Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for the full-size iPad.

Does the keyboard fold around the back of the iPad securely, and stay there? Or is it best to just detach it for "in-hand" use of the iPad?

Nope! The magnets holding the Keyboard Cover to the iPad simply detach if you try to fold it around back. It's best to remove the cover and use the iPad by itself if you want to use it without the Keyboard Cover as a stand.

No, the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad does NOT work with the iPad mini, because the case is too thin to fit in the slot. But there is a Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for the iPad mini. Its cost is $79.99. The magnets are pretty weak; I'd give it a score of 3 out of 5.

Yes, it does. Whatever keyboard layout (language setting) that you chose the keypads respond to your setting, same as if your are typing with the IPad's virtual keyboard.
