Answer
It's a midi controller, so it doesn't produce any sound on its own- but let's say you plug it into an iPad, using Garageband, and want to add a track. Add a track for it and you can select what sound (guitar, drums, strings, piano, synths, etc) you want the output to have. The sound will come from the device it's plugged into.

Can an adapter be used to connect to the iPad mini? If yes, which adapter?

AnswerYes- check out the 30 pin to Lightning adapters. There's one that's just a block that adapts it to the old 30-pin connection, and one that's also a cord too. Both work great with this.

Will this work with iPad 4th gen via lightning to USB cable?
I know that it will work with the 30 pin adapter, but will it connect to the iPad 4th generation model with the Lightning to USB adapter cable via the USB printer cable (the cable you would use to connect to a computer)?

AnswerNo, but it will be able to use the 30-pin to Lightning adapters you mentioned. The keyboard comes with a cable that plugs into the 30-pin connection, but the Lightning to 30-pin adapter works great with the newer devices. It wouldn't connect via the USB cable, since the keyboard also has a cable with a male USB connection, made to plug into devices (like a Mac, for instance) that have a female USB port. The keyboard itself doesn't have a female USB port where the Lightning to USB cable would plug in.

Will I be able to play the strings from GarageBand that's on my iPad with this keyboard?
- Asked by Ismail F from Winfield

AnswerThis is a midi controller, which means you can input what you're playing from the keyboard to the iPad. In Garageband, add a track for the keyboard and you can select what instrument you'd like to use for the output sound. The sound will be played from the iPad, using Garageband.

does it record what I play into music notation that can be printed?
I want to print music with music notation that I compose. Does this keyboard do that? In other words, If I play a song on the keyboard, will the song show up in music notation (ie. quarter notes and eighth notes etc with the correct pitches) so that I can then print my own sheet music for someone else to read and play at some other location on another instrument?

Will it work on a Powerbook G4 with a Tiger Operating System?
Yes, it still (the G4) works - but our household also uses an Air, iPhone and iPad. One user in the household prefers the old school approach. Will the new piano keyboard work? What other piano keyboard options would you suggest? Thanks.

Is velocity sensitive the same as light weighted keys?
I'm looking for a keyboard for my 14 year old who is learning piano. Her teacher says she needs a light weighted key board. I was wondering if this would be good?

AnswerThis will certainly work for a beginning piano student, though Mobile Keys 49 might be better as it has more keys, making two-handed playing easier. Velocity sensitivity is different from the key weight, it makes more expressive playing possible so it will sound more like a real acoustic piano.

Can you use it on its own with earphones?
- Asked by Rod H from Patterson Lakes
- 17-Nov-2012

AnswerYou can use earphones, but only by plugging them into a compatible iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch connected to the keyboard. This is a MIDI controller keyboard, not a standalone instrument, so the sound comes from the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, not from the keyboard itself.
