Do I have to backup all my data from my OS X version 10.5.8 before I upgrade to OS 10.6.8 and then OS X Mountain Lion?

Best AnswerNo, but it is a great idea. What will happen if something goes wrong during the install, like a power failure? How many days or weeks will it take you to replace your data? Buy an external hard drive, and open "time machine" on the mac. Simple.

- Asked about: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
Best AnswerPersonally, don't bother with 10.8- Snow Leopard has been tagged as a very and reliable stable operating system for many into photography, music and high processor-demanding applications.
Your system is plenty for Snow Leopard but might take a hit on Mountain Lion. I/m running an early 2010 MBP and experienced issues immediately with ML, but none with SL

AnswerI have the 13 inch macbook retina and I absolutely love everything about it. I have had the non retina MacBook Pro and while it was a great machine the macbook retina beats it hands down. The ssd on the retina pro is so much faster and the retina display is amazing. I originally purchased the 15 inch but it was just to bulky and uncomfortable even on my lap. There is just a pound difference so it wasn't the weight but the size. You will not miss the two inches. How much storage do you need? I have 256GB ssd but I also like you have an external hard drive. The non retina pro has an optical drive but that wasn't an issue for me. Lets face it, optical drives are on their way out. I have an apple super drive and have used it one time. If it was me you won't go wrong with either one but the way I look at it your already going to spend money so why not just get the best and in my opinion and experience the MacBook Pro is better than the air as far as the build and size you will love the MacBook Pro. Go with the retina if you can. You won't regret it.

Can I run windows on Macbook Air with 256GB HDD?
I'm thinking about getting a used Macbook Air. 13" with 256GB flash memory. Now my brother has an Air but a 128GB flash memory and I can't split the drive for Mac and Windows. Some of my programs that I use require Windows and I was wondering if its possible to run windows on a 13" Air with 256GB flash memory?

Yes - all you need is the one of the Mac versions (Home Edition/Student Edition/Professional) which is sold in all Apple Stores (from my own experience)

will appleworks work on a macbook air?
I couldn't find an answer to this question. If I upgrade my Mac G5 to a Macbook pro or air, will the appleworks be able to work on the new computer? If not, is there a program on the new computer that will at least allow the appleworks documents to open? What should I do to not lose those documents?

Best AnswerNot directly.
You'll first have to update from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 in order to have the App Store feature. It's the only way to download 10.8 Mountain Lion.
Next, you need to make sure your system supports the minimum requirements. Look at this document for default (remove the spaces): http: //www. apple. com/ osx/ specs/- Answered by Bernard D from Rosemere

Yes but you need the version made for MacOS. I find the 2011 Mac version superior to the latest PC version. In years past the opposite was true with the Mac versions being somewhat unreliable and prone to crashing, especially Excel and PPT, but these issues seem to be all but resolved.
