Difference between Macbook Pro with Retina Display and the new Macbook Air?
As the new Macbook Pro doesn't come with a disk drive and the original Macbook air doesn't come with a disk drive at all, what is the difference? They differ from price therefore, I would like to know the difference.

Best AnswerHi Krysta,
There is a lot of difference between the MBP (Macbook Pro) and the MBA (Macbook Air) aside from the price and the ports. For starters, the MBP features a high resolution 15" display (everything you see on the screen will be super sharp and crisp). The MBA is about 1.5lbs lighter than the MBP and as you've stated it does not have a dvd drive. MBP is meant for people who will be working a lot with video or photography, things that require a lot of processing power, think a fast car. MBA is more for the casual user who will only use the laptop for general every day things like surfing the web, uploading pictures, chatting with friends, etc. The MBP will also have more storage space assuming you are sticking with the base models (meaning you aren't planning on making any upgrades). Hope that helps. If you have questions you can always walk into an Apple store and test out the machines and ask the sales people there.- Answered by Ricky C from Brooklyn

Are Apple keyboards, with only a delete key, less efficient in making deletions than conventional keyboards with both a backspace and a delete key?
I have been using a Windows desktop at home and my office. Although I have never had a laptop, I have been planning to buy an Apple laptop for use when I travel. However, I recently used an Apple and found its keyboard, in one particular way, to be inferior to the standard keyboards that I have been accustomed to using. Do you agree?
A conventional keyboard has two keys to make deletions. The backspace key deletes characters to the left of the cursor. The delete key deletes characters to the right of the cursor. In contrast, the Apple keyboard has only one key to make deletions. It is the delete key and it deletes characters to the left of the cursor. It appears that if I want to delete characters to the right of the cursor, there is no way to do that directly and simply. Am I correct about that? I must either use a second key or I must first highlight the text and then delete it.
Using a non-Apple conventional keyboard, it is also possible to delete an entire word and one adjacent space in only two strokes by using a combination of the control key and the delete key. The same can be done in the other direction using the control key and the backspace key. How would these two types of deletion most efficiently be done with an Apple keyboard?
The reality seems to be that two keys to delete can operate more efficiently, in more directions, than only one (Apple). Do you agree that the Apple keyboard is less efficient in making deletions than the conventional keyboard when using Word software? What is the best way to get around that inefficiency in a MacBookPro? If there is no way around it, should this discourage me from getting an Apple since I do lots of word processing and deletions?
Does the Apple keyboard have any advantages over the conventional keyboard that I should be aware of?- Asked by Robert J from Granger

- Asked about: Apple Wireless Keyboard - British
Best AnswerThe short answer is yes, but as with any other kind of switch, it takes a little getting used to.
As we may already know, the Apple-style delete removes characters backwards, akin to PC's backspace. However, if you hold down the fn key on an Apple keyboard while you press the delete key, it removes characters forward, akin to the PC delete that we all know.
I'm not sure if an Apple keyboard implements a PC keyboard's Insert, but then again to me it really doesn't matter, since I never use that key anyway.
Other useful PC-to-Apple keyboard translations:
Home on PC => fn + left arrow on Apple
End on PC => fn + right arrow on Apple
Page Up on PC => fn + up arrow on Apple
Page Down on PC => fn + down arrow on Apple
Windows Key on PC => Cmd Key on Apple (in Windows only)
Naturally, all of these keystrokes on the Apple keyboard can be combined with Shift, Ctrl/Cmd, and/or Alt as necessary, so for example, Ctrl+Alt+Del on PC would translate to Ctrl+Alt+fn+Del to get the same effect using an Apple keyboard.
I have not yet found a translation on an Apple keyboard for PC keyboard's Print Screen key, which is useful for capturing screenshots quickly. Does anyone here know how to send such a code with an Apple keyboard, assuming it can actually do that?- Answered by George H from Dayton

The brand new models do not. You can use any external USB based optical drive with them, including the USB SuperDrive that Apple makes.
All of the previous models (prior to 2012) have optical drives, with the slot on the side of the computer.- Answered by Christina T from Lake Oswego

Best AnswerFirst, upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard. You can purchase this at some stores, but only if they still have supply. They will not have it on display and you have to specifically ask for it. You can also order it online directly from Apple:
store.apple.com /us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Once you have 10.6 installed, you can update to 10.6.8 and use the Apple Mac Store to upgrade to 10.7 Lion because the MacBook4,1 and MacBook4,2 do not support 10.8 Mountain Lion. However, you might need to call Apple Care in order to purchase this over the phone, as they no longer list 10.7 Lion in their app store.- Answered by Miles R from Lakewood

Which model and size is best for me?
I just sold my 13" mid-2010 Macbook Pro and thought it was great. I'm looking to buy a new machine, and am debating between the Macbook Air, the Macbook Pro, and the Macbook Pro with Retina.
I am a university student (finishing off my business degree now, then headed to law school). I have another 4-5 years of school. I do general things on my computer -- e-mail, web browsing, MS Office, research, etc. I don't really do any photo or video editing as of right now. I listen to music and watch movies/TV as well on my laptop.
I bring my laptop EVERYWHERE, so portability and long battery is big for me.
Which model and screen size do you think is best for my needs?- Asked by Sabrina B from Woodbridge

MacBook Air vs MacBook Pro with retina display
I am going into high school next year, and I know I'll need a new laptop, but I'm debating between the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro with Retina display 13in. I would upgrade the processor on both models, and the RAM on the air. I don't know how much faster the MacBook Pro with retina would be though. I program in X-code (cocoa), would run Boot Camp, Use FCPX, and Logic Pro 9 as well as other basic programs for school. I know I can't afford the 15in MacBooks which are much faster, so I don't know if there would be much difference between the two. Thanks in advanced!

macbook air or macbook pro
Hi,
I'm a developer, right now I've a macbook pro 13" 2009 (C2C 2,53GHz 4Go of RAM). And I want to replace my computer. I really fall in love with the 13" macbook air.
The question is: should I buy a Macbook pro 13" or a Macbook air 13"?
Basically I just do a lot of terminal, xcode and eclipse. Also a bit of Photoshop..
I don't know if the macbook air could handle that.. ( even if my MBP 2009 do that).
And the next question is: Is there a difference between 4Go of Ram and 8Go?
Thanks!- Asked by Guillaume L

Best AnswerHi there,
If you're worried about portability and a lightweight Apple laptop, definitely go for the MacBook Air, it is still a very powerful computer. I'm pretty sure the Air is more than capable of running Terminal and Xcode, and if you're only running Photoshop sometimes, the Air will be fine for you. But if you're heavily using Photoshop, I think the Pro might be better, it gives me the impression it is a little bit more robust machine than the Air. My recommendation is to go to an Apple Store or a reseller's store and try out the two computers.
For the RAM, I don't think 4GB of extra memory will make much of a difference. I'm pretty sure the 4GB should be okay for you.
I hope this helps!- Answered by Walter K from Ottawa

i want to buy the old macbook air, not the one that just came out, but I can't find it. is it still for sale here? where should I look for one?
I know the new laptops came out recently, but I was going to buy the now older one. Can I still buy it here online, or do they only sell their newest products here? Also, are the prices cheaper for the older laptop now that the new one has come out?

Do Adobe CS6 programs work on new MacBook Pros?

Which MacBook should I get?
Hey there. I'm an upcoming high school senior and after a little bit of luck with the job hunt, I landed one and am able to buy a MacBook. Problem is, I can't decide between the 13-inch Air or the 13-inch Pro. I'll be buying the base model, whichever one I choose anyway.
Some usage background. Most often, I'll be doing word processing, browsing the Internet, streaming videos and music. Other things I don't do as often will be more on the programming side: testing out code, learning new languages. I don't do video and photo editing too much anymore and when I do it's usually on the desktop. I'm not a hardcore PC gamer and prefer consoles, so the most graphics-extensive game I'll be running is Minecraft.
I'll probably be downloading quite a bit of software as I've kept my eye on some applications from the App Store for a while now. They're not very demanding on the computer power, though, so I think it'll be alright.
So which one do you think I should purchase? Family has been no help at all with the deciding, but to their credit they did accompany me to the Apple Store and gave their individual opinions. (Conspiracy: they all want me to buy the cheaper one.)- Asked by Aleks V from Pasadena

MacBook Air or MacBook Pro?
I am a sophomore in High School but take medical courses over the weekends and during the summer at Columbia University. I have dealt with a desktop for a few years but I need a laptop to take with me to my classes. I commute every day and want something that I won't notice I'm carrying around. I have a very heavy work schedule and need a laptop that is thin and light but that is powerful enough to run programs like Adobe Photoshop quickly. I don't mind spending more to get a heavily configured computer as long as it meets my needs. I'm torn between these two because I prefer the MacBook Air 13" but I'm worried that it won't be able to deal with Photoshop. I spend a lot of my time typing reports, creating powerpoints, and editing photos in photoshop.
