Does it only run with the power of an iPad touch, iPod or iPhone?

Does it have a remote control or does it only run with the iPad touch, iPod or an iPhone. It I dont have any of these gadgets I will not be able to buy one.

The range of Bluetooth 2.1 is 300 feet; does this mean the range of the Ferrari using an iPhone 4 is about 300 feet?
