Will it serve as a CD Rom to install Programs on MacBook?

My CD Rom Drive is not working on my MacBook... I need an external one to use instead of getting the CD Rom Drive repaired. Is this appropriate for program installations on my MacBook?

  • This is a hard drive, not a CD/DVD drive. you can however save a .iso or a .dmg of a CD/DVD to store on the drive on a different computer, then mount on the macbook in question
