What are the dimensions of the machine, both at its smallest and when extended for operation?

How much space do I need to allow for efficient operation?

  • Actual footprint is 18" wide by 5" deep, plus about 1" behind for the USB and power plugs which stick out.
Fully unfolded, that is with all extensions out, it is about 18" deep.
I've got mine in a very small space next to my desk. I use the scanner several times most days, but keep it closed as its easy to flip open and that act opens the scanning app on the computer.
Mine is positioned with its front edge when closed, on the edge of the end of a small bookcase. When opened the 'out' tray dangles over thin air. The extended 'in' tray is above the things I keep on the bookcase behind it. Therefore, the actual horizontal space used by the scanner, opened or closed, is only the 5" by 18" of its footprint. It's not really possible to keep anything immediately under the space occupied by the out tray as theis would stop it opening flat and could interfere with the exiting paper..
Hope this is clear, if not, please ask.
