Leave traditional wall switch ON permanently. Software timing, dimming and color change functions from iPad or iPhone control the bulbs. If you forget and switch the wall switch, when you switch it back on, the bulbs will default to approx. 3000 degree Kelvin light. Then touch iPhone to restore mood.

  • The bulb acts like a regular light when you turn the switch on the wall. Only after it is on and powered can you change the settings. It always defaults to a normal soft white light each time you turn it on manually.

If you want to have the lights scheduled then you need to leave the switch on and control them from the application.

  • If you have a standard on/off wall switch you can still turn them on/off. To dim them, you need to use the remote app.

  • You leave your wall switch on, and turn on the bulbs from the app. If for some reason you lose power, or switch the light off, when you turn it back on it acts like a regular light bulb till you resync it with the app. (which takes seconds)

  • If you use the wall switch, you only get to turn the lights on (and the color default is white) or turn off the lights (and then the bulbs will not interact with the app). You have to keep your light switch always turned "on" and then only can you change colors of bulbs thru the app or turn the lights off so you can control them from outside your home.

  • You can turn on and off with a switch...they come on white light. If you want the app to turn them on and off the switch must be left on. They do not remember last color setting...but you could always create a scene with a timer setting to set it back to the color you prefer,

  • Yes the bulbs can be switched with a traditional switch but they will default back to a warm white tone after you do so

  • You can turn the lights on or off remotely by the App or via the internet, but to do that you have to ensure that the light switch at home is always "ON". If you turn off the light switch there is no way to turn the lights back on remotely.

  • The traditional wall switch will work but will default to a standard light setting/color. Currently I don't believe there is a way to program a custom color or setting for the switch.

It's working well in my house as I enjoy setting up custom settings but the kids can still use a wall switch and have light. It's a nice mix.

  • If the wall switch is off, the Hue bulb can't be controlled. If the switch is on, you can control it using the iOS device, or with their online portal. The local wall switch can always override the remote controlling of it.
