  • Your new iPhone 5 comes with a 30-pin charger. What this adapter is for is to adapt your other chargers that you may have used with previous versions of iPhone to use with the iPhone 5. I tend to have several chargers, one I carry in my purse, one in my car and a couple in the house. So since the phone comes with only one, this adapter was the perfect solution. I bought a couple of adapters and added them to the chargers I already owned and now I have just as many usable chargers for my iPhone 5 as I had for my previous iPhones. You do not need this adapter if you only choose to use the charger that comes with your iPhone 5.
