How much faster, with AP Extreme (late-2009), will the bridged wireless be, connecting from a wireless source from another router? Like to basement?

Same speed as wireless source. An 802.11g wireless network will remain an 802.11g wireless network. Replace that router with the AirPort Extreme and give yourself an 802.11n wireless network. You probably will not need to extend its network.
