Answer
No. It must be plugged into a power source and a dsl/cable modem. Then you can plug in any computer you like, connect hard drives and printers, and connect wirelessly to the internet, assuming you've the appropriate devices.

Only if the Mac computer is not capable of using WiFi. If the mac computer has the equipment necessary for WiFi, you will not nee to connect the Airport Extreme to the Mac computer.
