Questions & Answers
I see units are failing after 18 months. How long is the Time Capsule warranty? (I'd hope at least 3 years.)

If you are using the Time Capsule with a computer that's covered under AppleCare, the Time Capsule is covered. Note that they do NOT have to be on the same receipt. From the AppleCare Protection Plan terms & conditions:
"An AirPort Extreme Card, an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, Time Capsule, an Apple-branded DVI to ADC display adapter, Apple RAM modules and MacBook Air SuperDrive are also covered under APP if owned by you and used with the Covered Equipment."
Also, from Apple's page advertising the plan:
"An AirPort Extreme Card, AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, Time Capsule, MacBook Air SuperDrive, and Apple RAM when used with a Mac covered by the AppleCare Protection Plan"
Note that I (and others) have verified this in practice - I am getting my dead 18-month old Time Capsule replaced under the APP on my MacBook pro.- Answered by RG from Portland

The current "Best Answer" is just plain wrong - your Time Capsule can be very easily covered under any Mac's Apple Care protection plan and does not need to be on the same receipt (only apple displays do).
Since I cannot post a link to the Apple Page describing their plan which clearly outlines their coverage policy, I will copy the paragraph describing their policy:
Comprehensive coverage
The AppleCare Protection Plan covers your Mac, as well as an AirPort Extreme Card, an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, Time Capsule, MacBook Air SuperDrive, and Apple RAM used with your Mac. Mac mini, Mac Pro, and MacBook Pro customers may also register one Apple display for coverage, provided that the Mac and the display are purchased together.
You can find this information on the AppleCare Protection Page.- Answered by JC from Washington

One year -- see www.apple.com /support/airport/service. You can extend it with an AppleCare Protection Plan.
"How long is my product covered by Apple’s warranty?
Your product is covered by Apple’s One-Year Limited Warranty. Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of original retail purchase (”date of purchase”)."- Answered by DK from Cupertino

The information about the EU second year cover, provided in another answer, is wrong. It is a common misconception that EU law provides you with a second year of warranty. It does not. The warranty for a Time Capsule is only one year (regardless of whether it was bought in a store or online). The EU law comes into play after your warranty has expired (after the first year is up). You have this following year to prove that any fault with the Time Capsule occurred within the first year (the period it was covered under warranty) and can still get it repaired or replaced (whether it is repaired or replaced is at Apple's discretion).
However, as another answer-er states, Time Capsules are covered under an a Mac's AppleCare Protection Plan, if the Time Capsule is used with that Mac and the Time Capsule DOES NOT have to be bought at the same time. However, it MUST be one of the current models (i.e. the 500GB models would now not be covered).- Answered by DP from Brighton

IF you bought your Time Capsule with your computer and you got Apple Care with the computer. Your time capsule will be covered for 3 years.
