Is Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor a standard that works on all platforms?

Will the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor work for video output from a new Dell XPS that has a mini DisplayPort connection?

    Thanks. I bought a generic one and it works for my Dell XPS and a colleague's Macbook to both monitors and projectors too. So it's a standard port and adapter, not Windows or Mac specific.

  • Be careful. I bought the Apple VGA connector and it won't work on my XPS 13 Ultrabook. The signal was not stable and fickle. Definitely won't work on older projectors. If you have Dell XPS with mini display port, get the Dell connector, and it definitely works. What I understood was that yhe connector must have dual-link, and Dell's connector has that.
