  • Only some older models (2007) of the Macbook Pro have a numeric keyboard built into some of the keys (IOPKL etc) when you press "Num Lock".

  • No. That's the only disappointment I have with Apple's laptops.

  • my macbook pro is from 2009. there IS an embedded numeric keypad. if you look at older keyboards, some letters on the right side have smaller numbers in the corners. apple took the numbers away but kept the function (and didn't seem to tell anyone?). hold down Command + Function + M (0), J (1), K (2), L (3), U (4), I (5), O (6), 7 (7), 8 (8), 9 (9). i can't find the number lock, but at least this allows you to access the keypad, which is a must for me to make and use style sheet short cuts in indesign.

  • No, they don't. But it's not completely arbitrary; the reason Apple laptops don't have a numeric keypad is because it makes the typing position off-center, which is bad ergonomically for your wrists. And the trackpad would have to be moved over, which would hurt the symmetrical design.
