Why does the new iMac only come with ONE firewire port?
On my old imac (6 or 7 years old...1.25GHz PowerPC G4....) I had two Firewire ports, which was very useful...I would permanently have my printer attached to one of them, and would alternate between hooking up my camcorder or my external hard drive to the second port. With the new Macs only having one FW port I'll have to constantly unplug my printer and then attach my camcorder everytime I want to upload camcorder footage. I use Final Cut Express and make alot of mocvies, but I also print out lots of invoices & stuff like that...and quite often, to save space, I'll upload something from my camcorder & then after editing it I drag it into the external harddrive. I'd rather not have to constantly be fiddling around with the back of the computer if I can avoid it. Any suggestions? Can the new computer be configured with different numbers of ports, ie: customisable? Or maybe I'm being the times and perhaps today's printers don't need to be hooked up via firewire? I'm pretty sure the camcorder will need one, given all the HD video & all the audio data that needs to feed thru.
Thanks

Answer
Get a FireWire hub or daisy-chain your FireWire devices. If your FireWire devices are bus powered, better to get a hub.
You can buy a FW 800 to FW 400 adapter to hook up your hub and hook your devices to the same hub.- Answered by Sylvia H from Sunnyvale
