Can I use apple TV to mirror my iMac on my TV

  If your iMac was built in 2011 or more recently and are running Mountain Lion, yes this functionality is built-in ("Airplay Mirroring").
  
  If your iMac is older than that, you can still do it but you will need to purchase a 3rd party program called Airparrot ($10) and be running at least OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). It works, but performance will vary depending on the quality of video you desire and the specs of your computer.
