Sure you can and with the right system it works brilliantly. I have the digital optical output of Apple TV connected into my Marantz NA7004 Network Streamer which I then use as a DAC feeding my Marantz Pearl Lite stereo amplifier. This gives me absolutely the best sound. I can then stream my music via Airplay from iTunes on my PCs and Macs, iphones and ipads as I choose. Even better I use iTunes Match service which works brilliantly across all devices provided you have a decent Internet connection and a good wifi router to avoid dropout and other hiccups.
