    TIME MACHINE FOR THE EARS
    • Written by PB from ILFORD

The convenience of digital music had without me realising it superseded the enjoyment of the music itself. Being able to skip around a music collection of tens of thousands of tracks manually or on shuffle had become the defining reason for owning an iPod. Wow my entire record collection in my pocket! Then I treated myself to these gorgeous headphones, the design and build quality alone almost selling me on them. But the purity of the sound and the crispness of the tones has transformed the way I listen to my music. Even the most familiar piece of music that I purchased on vinyl decades ago and re-purchased on compact disc and then downloaded digitally is transformed into a fresh listening experience by these headphones. Dozens of tiny sounds that had been buried within the grooves had been unearthed, and I found myself listening, really listening until the track finished. To close your eyes and hear your favourite music with new clarity is quite astonishing, as if your ears had been syringed ! It reminded me of the first time I put on a pair of prescription glasses, I had always assumed that the world was blurred for everyone, it was as if I had had my eyes removed, cleaned, polished and re-fitted. These headphones will do the same for your ears! I'm not someone who can spend £250 on a set of headphones on a whim, so a lot of thought went into buying them, and I went through the usual apprehension about whether I should have bought a cheaper pair, did I really need a pair at all! But within a few minutes of putting them on I knew that I had made the right decision. I've made myself playlists of tracks I hadn't listened to for ages, it even made me listen to Dark Side of the Moon for the first time in probably fifteen years, I'm from that generation who used the album as a way of setting up a hi-fi and like a time machine for the ears it again made me marvel at the wonders of stereo sound ! :-) If you don't buy these headphones for yourself, buy them for your ears! Excellent - Tested Against Dre and Bose.
    • Written by AB from SUNDERLAND

Probably like many others, the prospect of forking out nearly 300 notes on a set of headphones does chill me to the bone, so I did a lot of research and more importantly listening to many headphones.
I initially had my heart set on the Dr Dre Studio Beats after checking them out in the Apple Store Newcastle and almost bought them then and there but I am pleased I held my passion.
As much as I liked the Dre's I just could not get away from the fact that they are a little plasticy and then when when you read the reviews on many sites you notice just how many people are having trouble with them breaking... not good.
After really just stumbling across the B&Ws and how well they were being reviewed I thought I needed to audition them.
I am not new to the B&W brand as I have Hi-Fi speakers by them, so my expection was for them to perform well, so it was off to the Apple Store to compare these with the Dre's and the Bose with my iPod and my eclectic musical taste.
I tested all three with tracks by Radiohead, Muse, Jane's Addiction, Kanye, Lupe, Zero 7, David Gilmour and Joe Purdy so a right old bag full.
Out of the three the Bose fell first, the Noise Cancelling is superb but does put a little too much pressure on your eardrums for my liking plus out of all three they were the hardest for the iPod to drive and needed turning up high to get any decent sound level.
The B&W and Dre Studio Beats both are superb but in the end it came down to two main points, firstly the Dre's plastic feel and the poor reviews online backing this up but more importantly sound quality, I feel that the sound is boosted too much in the higher frequencies and once you lock onto this it is hard to ignore. They are very good but the B&W just pips it for me.
So after a long couple of weeks I have decided on the B&Ws. With these beauties there is not plastic just a great leather and metal build. They are very comfy and most importantly they SOUND FANTASTIC. Bass response is very good and the mids and highs are handled very well. Nothing feels forced and you dont need to give yourself a break after listening, you can actually relax while listening and hear the recording as it was intended.
So do yourself a favour and go and audition these and by all means the other brands and see what you think. These things have just breezed onto the scene without a hail of hype or premiership footballers wrapping them around their necks post match and for that demand a listen.
Whichever way you go all these Headphones are fantastic but the B&Ws are just a cut above.

    Amazing!

Being a bit of a B&W fan throughout the house, I was really looking forward to the P5's release but being their first venture into headphones I was a little cautious. However, very pleased to say they do not disappoint!

Build quality is as you would expect from B&W, a great piece of engineering and they look great. As for comfort, I thought that the "finest new zealand sheeps leather" was a bit of a marketing speak but they are so comfy!

And as for sound... absolutely sublime and have surpassed my expectations. Tested them with Maxwells track "Ascension" at lossless on my iPhone - Its a track I know very well and I am just speechless. Worth every penny single penny and takes some topping in this price range.

Originally had the Beats by Dre Solo HDs and canont explain how happy I am upgraded -they were so flimsy and they weren't durable at all - not to mention the sound quality ended up going all fuzzy and crackly, in short they just DIDNT LAST.

The P5s on the other hand, wow. They are not only beautiful with the leather and aluminium design that is miles ahead of any other headphones i've seen in terms of class, but the sound wuality is perfect. The bass is really defined and you can really hear it but it doesnt shake and make that grungy vibrating noise in your ear. No to mention they are so comfortable! The leather is padded and so soft on the ears so you can wear them for hours on end (as I do) and still be totally comfortable.

They're a little on the pricey side for headphones but they're so amazing that they're worth it! If you haven't gottem, gettem!

They'll handle anything you throw at them...

I've got a varied taste in music and they bring out the best in almost everything. They're sound very balanced so don't expect just pure bass, but don't get me wrong when the bass kicks in when necessary YOU WON'T BE DISSAPOINTED. The comfort is deceptive though, initially yeah they feel great...but my biggist gripe with these phones is after an hour or so's use my ears feel pretty sore. Maybe it's just my head :( The customer service is second to none by the way. Called the manufacturer for a replacement cable and they shipped 1 out no questions asked. More

I have owned , klipsch one (too much bass). Sennheiser PX200i (best for crisp sound and good bass). Apple in-ear (great backup set). Sony EX in-ear (best for £20) Bose AE2i (great sound and bass but cable broke) Bose OE2i (nice sound but half volume people can hear, bad leakage)
Never used the one's in the box, but now Bowers & Wilkins P5 (wow! comfortable full bass, crisp sound, memory foam stopped leakage, secure fit and they look sexy)
BUY THEM NOW!!!! even though they are £250, well worth it!

  • Bowers & Wilkins P5 or Bose QC3?

So I'd have to say go with the P5's. I bought the QC15's first and had them for about 2 weeks, and while they are extremely comfortable and do a good job canceling low frequency uni-tone sound like jet rumbling or outdoor ambient noise, they don't cancel out voices or babies crying-- which, since I'm a student and I fly a lot, is imperative for me. Also, the sound quality is far superior in the P5's, they're extremely natural sounding and very comfortable. They don't formally cancel noise like the QC's do, but the noise isolation technology ensures that at a reasonably safe volume I can't hear a word anyone says, and on plane flights they do a fairly good job of isolating the music and at least muffling the sound of the plane without necessarily canceling it the way the QC's do. Once I exchanged my QC's for the P5's I didn't think twice once. More

I don't own a pair of these yet unfortunately, but plan to treat myself to a pair this christmas. I've clocked a lot of time with them in assorted apple stores, and they work perfectly with the iPhone 4, and 3gs's old voice control by holding down the centre button to activate. Now i do have the iPhone 4s, and the inline buttons on the headphone cable are laid out exactly the same, and activate Siri via the same method.
So i'm more or less certain, by putting two and two together, that yes, the inline remote can activate and control Siri
Hope this was helpful, just sorry i couldn't give you a definite answer.
