TomTom Car Kit for iPhone
It's just makes it better!
Written by GT from Birmingham
13-Oct-2009
The TomTom Car Kit greatly improves the TomTom App available in the App Store. The kit itself is very sturdy and well manufactured, it can also be positioned at almost any angle.
It improves the GPS well but I have still experienced a slight lag (1-2 seconds) when travelling at speeds in excess of 30mph. When stationary or moving slowly it is extremely accurate.
I have not experienced a hands-free call yet but I was disappointed with the lack of call handling options when connected to the Car Kit ... automatic answer would be nice, especially when driving along! When clicking the Car Kit option in the app it still brings up an advertisement for the Car Kit instead of any options!
It is a bit of a hassle to have to turn on bluetooth for the Car Kit to work. It would've been nice if bluetooth was automatically activated (or at least an option within the app) when the iPhone was connected to the Car Kit ... it states on the packaging 'works with iPhone' so hopefully this will come in the future!
The speaker is ace ... it gives the instructions very loud and very clear and obviously this can be altered using the switch on the side of the Car Kit.
All in all, a must have! Now we just need an update with the app to take advantage of the ability of the extra hardware. …More95 of 116 people found this useful

TomTom Car Kit for iPhone
What it says on the tin
Written by AH from Bushey
15-Oct-2009
setting up the Tom Tom iPhone car kit was rally simple.
The connection between the iPhone and the kit is via bluetooth and the dock.
Just dock the iPhone and connect bluetooth in the usual way via setting - general - bluetooth. The passcode is 5555 and your away.
The GPS is noticeably more accurate, when coming up to complex junctions Tom Tom now have no hesitation in knowing which carrigeway I have taken.
Also TTFF is noticeably shorter although i have not measured the difference.
the iPod plays music out of the Kits speaker via the dock, so does not need bluetooth to work.
The hands free aspect of the phone is completely reliant on bluetooth. I have have had several conversations using the kit and everyone has said that the sound is great even when a passenger is speaking. So I am very happy with it.
The box comes with the Car kit, a 1.2m charging cable, and minimal instructions.
Is it worth £99?
For the combined phone cradle, handfree, Enhanced GPS, a decent speaker for its size and a mini USb connection and a 3.5mm aux out. Yes
Would I have like UK maps bundled with it. Yes
Would I recommend it. YES
It makes you legal in the UK and that is almost worth the price of admission …More57 of 64 people found this useful

TomTom Car Kit for iPhone
Makes the app useable
Written by TR from LONDON
16-Oct-2009
I bought the car kit from the Apple store in Bluewater the other day (one of the only stores with them in stock).
Set up was painless - literally plug and play. As with the previous review, having to turn on Bluetooth to use the hands-free option is a bit of a pain but liveable.
I'm glad TomTom used the more expensive SirfStar III GPS chip, as this is one of the best around, of late they started using cheaper GPS chips in their stand alone units, and as such they dropped signal in built up areas.
I've been using the car kit for a few days now in London and with all the high-rise buildings there is no loss of signal at all, and reacts very quickly to turns
The speaker (2watt) is loud and clear as is the handsfree function
Not a full 5 stars due to the connectivity with Bluetooth... Overall an excellent product - shame about the price …More51 of 55 people found this useful

TomTom Car Kit for iPhone
few bugs...
Written by CB from knocklyon

bought this not long ago....have a mixed feeling towards it..
1) i have a bluetooth stereo headset in my car, i used to stream my iphone using a2dp (music calls etc..) though that and on my car speakers. now when im docked im using a headphone jack to jack cable form the dock, there is very bad interference when i accelerate (another reviewer is also having the same issue)
2) why dont the other callers calls transmit through the car speakers if i have an aux cable plugged in?? who thought it would be a better idea to have it through the cradle?!?! that defeats the whole purpose of using the aux cable!!
3) why do you have to use bluetooth to connect to the "dock" for calls , its a dock, its using the dock connection so theres no reason why it shouldnt work directly form the dock to the phone when its docked and then they could free up the bluetooth connection
hopefully the bluetooth/caller audio bring transmitted problem will be sorted in future update, it should really be, its common sense!! …More3 of 3 people found this useful

I received my TTCK today but no matter what i did i couldn't get the iphone to pair to the cradle and it does not seem to be charging whilst in the cradle. The sound from the cradle is good and it looks and feels very nice. It's a shame the bluetooth pairing doesn't work and the my iphone keeps telling me "This accessory is not for the iphone"
O well, back to Apple it goes.. …More2 of 3 people found this useful

TomTom Car Kit for iPhone
Charges the iphone but...
Written by SB from Fort Lauderdale

I got my TomTom car kit.. I am sending mine back for several reasons.
1. Using it as a speaker phone is nearly impossible. Only if the iphone has been cradled AND linked with Bluetooth .. only then does it "sometimes" work.
in other words.. if you think you are going to just drop this in the cradle .. and start talking.. forget about it! EVERYTIME you cradle the iphone.. you have to go into settings, Bluetooth, connect.. a real PITA.. and if you are already driving.. it's nuts.
2: the iphone and cradle dont know which speaker to send the sound to.. if the iphone is cradled, and the 3.5mm jack on the cradle and your aux in on your car stereo is , the phone will ring and you may or may not hear it.. sometimes it comes from my phone speaker, othertimes the cradle speaker and yet other times I will hear half a ring out of my stereo car speakers!
3: When i used to use the Iphone in the aux jack ( pre tomtom cradle) things were great!! the phone would ring through my stereo speakers, the music would fade out, I would hear my callers in my car stereo loud and clear and I would just speak into the iphone mic.. works GREAT! using the Iphone TOMTOM car kit eliminates all of that.. and I am left with a buggy setup..
4:cannot use even the slimmest case with the Car Kit.. …More21 of 22 people found this useful
