Product Information

  • Overview

EyeTV Netstream DTT is a network dual TV tuner for digital television that lets you watch live on all Macs and iPads* on your home network. EyeTV Netstream DTT connects to your TV aerial and to your router via Ethernet to stream digital television to your computers. Two users can watch and record different programmes at the same time. If you have a rooftop antenna, the computers do not need to be near an antenna outlet. In a Wi-Fi network you can watch TV wirelessly.

EyeTV Netstream DTT does not require a dedicated network; you can stream live TV, surf the web and send email all at the same time. An intelligent device, EyeTV Netstream DTT offers centralised configuration via web browser and auto-discovery via UPnP + Bonjour. EyeTV Netstream DTT operates seamlessly on multiple computers; the two tuners are automatically allocated between computers as needed and capacity can easily be expanded by connecting an additional EyeTV Netstream DTT to the network.

iPad streaming requires the optional EyeTV app

Note: Performance may be limited by network bandwidth. 100Base-T Ethernet or 802.11n recommended. is intended for use in countries where digital terrestrial television is broadcast. Digital terrestrial television is also known as DVB-T, DTT, Freeview in the UK and TNT in France. For a list of countries in which DVB standards have been adopted, visit http://www.dvb.org.

EyeTV – watch, record, edit, enjoy!

Watch with EyeTV - pause and rewind live television on your Mac – at your desk or from the comfort of your sofa. Relax in your living room and use the EyeTV remote to channel surf and navigate the full screen menus.

Record with EyeTV 3 – the integrated Programme Guide with two full weeks of detailed TV listings.** Search for your favourite programmes, topics and actors using multiple criteria and full text search terms, and save and record your searches in one easy step. You can even record an entire TV series automatically.

Includes a free one-year subscription to TV listings data from tvtv, with optional renewal.

Edit with EyeTV 3’s – the built-in Editor removes unwanted content from your recording or lets you crop the beginning and end of a programme. The Editor also enables you to create short clips from longer recordings and save the clips as new EyeTV recordings.

Enjoy with EyeTV – send recordings automatically to iTunes for playback on an iPhone or iPad, or enjoy on your big-screen television with Apple TV. You can even share your EyeTV recordings over a local network with other Macs. Elgato offers an optional EyeTV app to stream live or recorded TV to an iPhone or iPad (available on the App Store).

  • This product has a HUGE flaw in the UK.

This device only has DVB-T receivers not the new DVB-T2 receivers required to pick up HD in the UK. From research I did after I had bought this product and realised HD was not available, it looks like the UK will never transmit HD over DVB-T, and these boxes cannot pick up DVB-T2 so it is doubtful that this device will ever pick up HD in the UK.

The advert here is misleading, it does state that it will receive HDTV, but does then qualify that with "where broadcast via DVB-T". This is the UK store guys, in the UK HDTV is not broadcast by DVB-T!

Other than the HD problem the box is a nice little unit if you are content with SD. It adds live TV to machines that haven't got access to a local aerial or TV tuner device. At £230 it's an expensive way to achieve this. My box has been returned awaiting a DVB-T2 version coming to market. Such a device I expect will get 5 stars.

The receiver does not work with the EyeTV iPhone App on any MPEG-4 channels (DR K, DR HD, DR Update, DR Ramasjang).

We use one alongside a couple of Elgato Hybrids connected to Macs so were delighted to discover that the NetStream can be used at the same time, separately controlled by each Mac, allowing BOTH Macs to view and/or record from BOTH devices at the same time! (That's each Mac using one NetStream channel each over the local network and each using their own directly-connected Hybrid device too!)

You DO need a Mac running EyeTV (included) or PC running its included software, so you can't just use an iPod Touch or iPhone to view or control recording UNLESS a network-connected Mac or PC is running also, but you do NOT need to use up another USB port to get it to work!

I purchased it for a high price (£229.95 in 2010) with the promise of HD reception when available (this was my justification to myself for paying such a high price for a 'toy').

However, having recently got HD TV in my area, it transpires that this device will never be able to receive HD TV in UK apparently (ref Elgato tech support). Gutted. No mention of this at all on the packaging back in 2010. I’m now wondering if the Trades Description Act (or EU equivalent) has a time limit on it.

I bought this product, didn´t have a clue would it work in Finland normally. I was already owner on EyeTV-Hybrid, which worked til I bought this product, didn´t have a clue would it work in Finland normally. I was already owner on EyeTV-Hybrid, which worked till several power cuts in a row... I took a risk and ordered this netstream thingy. My old minimac with 1g memory, netstream don´t work that well. But with my iMac and MacBookPro, it works perfectly. All you got to have are good home network, good computer and fast working internet...
