    Dream come true !!

    • Written by from Cambridge

I bought an eyeTV SAT to replace/complement an eyeTV 250+. The latter had been struggling to cope with poor Freeview reception and I'd given up on setting it to record in advance as channel switching just hung ...fortunately it still functions well for accessing analogue sources (this is not a feature of the new unit).

I had been praying for Elgato to bring out a Freesat compatible unit and the SAT is it. The faultless reception, HD picture and the full benefits of the eyeTV 3 software are a revelation.

It has thus far been rock-solid and recording has been glitch free despite running demanding applications simultaneously on my Intel iMac.

Those that criticise it for having only a single-tuner probably have too much time on their hands ...you can only watch so much !!

    Highly recommended.

    Reliable, capable Satellite TV tuner

    • Written by from Edinburgh

I've been using a USB Freeview stick with Elgato's EyeTV software for some 6 months and had been looking for a Satellite Tuner, when this new product was released. It's been running flawlessly for several weeks - and am very happy with it.

It was very easy to set up, alongside my existing USB Freview Tuner - The EyeTV software controls and uses both tuners at once.

I also have a dual dish system, one pointed towards 28.2E for Freesat, the other at 13E for Hotbird. Switching between the two is controlled automatically and transparantly by the Eyetv Sat using a compact DiSeq switch. It works beautifully.

Picture quality is excellent on my 2009 Mac Mini, outputted to a Sony 40" Bravia LCD over HDMI. I haven't tried the inbuilt CAM slot, only using it to watch free-to-air channels, but I'm delighted with the picture quality and the functionality of the EyeTV Software.

I'm eagerly awaiting the new Dr Who to be broadcast by BBC in HD now!

Best money I've spent (after my MacPro)

    • Written by from DUBLIN 15

I was looking for a freesat solution and from the specs available this looked the best. I'm really satisfied with the performance. It arrived 2 week before my MacPro and the old laptop wasn't really able for it although the set up worked flawlessly. Really got going when the MacPro arrived. Tunes in all the stations. Set the schedules for news, NFL and other unmissables and haven't missed one since. Well I did miss one. I got a "device cannot be initialised" dialogue but I reckon the wiring got disturbed somehow. I'm also recording the chinese soaps on PCNE which keeps the GF happy. (Guess where she's from). I've got it plugged into the 42" LCD via a DVI to HDMI lead that works and formats the wide screen to 4:3 flawlessly unlike any other device I've ever plugged into it.

So pleased with the EyeSat that I went and bought the DTT version which I find just as good. Now I need a server solution so everyone in the house can access all the recordings

Good, but could be a lot better

    • Written by from Airdrie

Great when it works !! Unfortunately the problem I have had is with the EyeTV software which hangs all too often and has to be shut down and restarted. I am running it on a new Mac mini with no other programs running so the Mac hardware should not be the problem.
The real let down however is the Program Guide which often does not update all the channel information, particularly the HD channels and does not give more than a few days information on HD channels most of the time - useless if you plan to go away for longer than that.
This unit only has one tuner so can only record one channel at a time - at this price, there really is no excuse for this and it should come with the ability to record 2 channels at the same time as standard.

Recordings made with the unit - especially the HD content is excellent and up to live broadcast quality. The editing facility of the provided software is a breeze to use and works fantastically well. If you want to archive free to air HD content, this is still one of the best ways to do it.

All in all a great product let down by the poor Program Guide information and the ability to record only one channel at a time. If you don't need HD, go for the cheaper Elgato EyeTV Diversity which is a great product with dual channel recording. I used it for over a year with none of the problems I've had with the HD version.

    EyeTV sat really is excellent

    • Written by from Oldham

Bought this as stopped Sky but wanted to watch and record HD TV. Used my old sky input from dish outside (does not need moving) and tuned in over a few minutes on my Mac Mini into the TV. In the channels list on eyeTV software you can uncheck the pay channels, so only have those listed in the programme listings that are free. One hour is about 6Gb to record and then use Toast to put on disc. Able to stream live and recordings to iPhone and iPad. Am very happy with it. More
