Overview

The passPORT Home Dock is specifically designed to let you charge your iPhone 3G, second-generation iPod touch and fourth-generation iPod nano with several iPod docking stations that don't currently allow such charging. It simply converts the older accessories' 12V FireWire charging output to the new 5V USB standard and passes through all of the other connections.

NOTE: If the speaker dock or other accessory you're intending to use does not initially support the audio or video functionality of the iPod or iPhone, the passPORT will not enable these features.

Features

  • Snaps into most iPod docking stations designed with the Apple approved universal dock
  • Accepts universal dock inserts that ship with iPod (not included)
  • Trim ring provides a snug fit with the Bose SoundDock I
  • Glossy black finish

Did you notice?

If you've experienced the error message "Charging is not supported with this accessory" on your iPod or iPhone while using an iPod docking station, this device will resolve the issue and allow your iPod or iPhone to charge.

    Brilliant! Corrects Apple's "improvement"

I've seen a review elsewhere suggesting this item doesn't fit. I can state with certainty that it fits a TEAC "made for ipod" stereo perfectly (make sure you put it in the right way round) and instantly solves the new problem created by Apple's "progress" - our Touch 2G now charges as nature intended. Shame it's necessary, but there you are. £30 is better than buying a new dock. Fact. More

Works with iPod Speaker and JBL On Stage II

So pleased there is a solution for loyal Apple customers to use newer iPods with older iPod (firewire pin) charging devices.

The passPORT Home Dock simply sits in the iPod universal dock space and will accept all the iPod plastic tray adaptors. Charges Nano 4G perfectly! Hurray! Same glossy black or white plastic as iPod compatible items.

(Shame on Apple for not providing this themselves.)

    Poor performance

Overall I'd say that this was OK - BUT - after only a few months of use with my iPod Touch I find that the music keeps cutting out and it seems to lose its charging connectivity too.

Either this is down to a poor connector in the Touch, this or the dock but the Touch works fine with other devices and other devices are fine in the dock so it looks like this is the culprit. The connection is also very loose with the Touch and the dock, there is no positive 'click' which seems to engage and secure everything in place.

If it finally packs up I will not be buying another that's for sure.

    No use to me

Sadly it does not fit my iPod universal dock nor my JPL speakers - far too big for both. Therefore I have returned it.
