Office 2008 for Mac - Home & Student
Buyer Beware.....
Written by PO from NORTHAMPTON

The first Excel workbook that I tried to open (written using MS Office 2000 for Windows) resulted in the following message - "This file contains Visual Basic macros. Visual Basic macros do not work in Office 2008 for Mac."
So treat with a little caution the wording on the Apple.com webpage for this particular product that says ".....so you can confidently share documents with friends and colleagues whatever system they're using."
The price of this software is very attractive (especially since it allows up to three Macs in a household to run the software simultaneously), but for me, because of the 'Visual Basic macro' problem, its back to my old Windows-based laptop! …More1273 of 1551 people found this useful

Office 2008 for Mac - Home & Student
An improvement
Written by IS from FALKIRK

It's definitely better than previous versions of Office for Mac, and is arguably better than its Windows counterpart. However, I still find it very difficult to justify the cost for what you get, but if what you need is maximum Word/Excel/PowerPoint compatibility then Office 2008 is your only real option, as iWork, while great, still has some compatibility issues.
So, if you want it just to create nice documents, spreadsheets etc, then I'd recommend iWorks for the sheer value for money and ease-of-use. But if you need compatibility then 2008 is your best-bet. Microsoft are however showing that they can innovate and improve their software though, and Office 2008 is a definite step in the right direction. …More849 of 1047 people found this useful

Office 2008 for Mac - Home & Student
microsofts usual (sub) standard
Written by BS from Manchester

Installation was easy enough, but since installing i have had so many problems!
Office 2008 will not open, 2004 will not open either.
Fonts have been messed up (not just in office but in other applications), and printers within quark now have issues.
I cannot comment on compatibly issues with previous versions (inc cross platform issues) as i cannot open any office documents.
Microsoft have a habit of making substandard software which requires several updates to make it fully functional.
I would suggest waiting until a major update is released until you install.
I have now removed it and returned my mac back to normal. …More868 of 1154 people found this useful

Perfectly alright.

An odd and unnecessary change in the layout and process of some functions, but nothing you can't get used to. Compatibility has never been a problem for me. It's essential as we all know for work, be it for the office or students - and it works, so get it! …More

Works great with new LED imacs, macbook pro's oct 2009
Written by BK from ha8 6bg

A great companion if you a PC to Mac convert. Works great with the new LED IMACS. I have been using this since the launch of the new imac (oct 09). I use office when working from home and no probs. Make sure you do updates though. It will improve features.
Reports of crashes can only mean that you’re running too many programs’ on the background. I use final cut pro, a very High resource program and does at times slightly Slows office but not that bad as others have mentioned.
It’s not worth 5 stars as I would like publisher but its worth more than 3 as it does work well. But all in all well recommended. …More19 of 24 people found this useful

Will installing Microsoft Office for Mac on my iMac make it vulnerable to viruses??
- Asked by FM from Palm Desert
- 18-Oct-2009
Best Answer
Yes and No.
The Mac Operating System will not be vulnerable.
Your Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents will be very vulnerable. A virus that infects Microsoft Office documents on a Mac could prevent printing and could cause trouble with sending emails that involve infected documents. You could easily get infected and spread the virus to any Windows user. …More- Answered by PS from Raleigh
