Product Information

  • Overview

Designed to match the Apple MacBook, iLap is made of aluminum with sand-blasted silver anodized finish.

iLap keeps your laptop cool by using lightweight aluminum. Whether on your desk, any other surface, or on your lap the aluminum draws heat from your notebook and dissipates it effectively.

The padded cushions (included) add extra comfort and allow use of your notebook on your lap, whether sitting or laying back in bed! The cushion can also be removed. The height of the support bar in the back can be adjusted to suit your needs. iLap is ergonomically designed to suit both lap and desk, so you stay cool even with prolonged use. iLap also raises your laptop screen higher to reduce strain on your neck and shoulders.

iLap is also suitable for other laptops.

  • An absolute treasure

    5.0 out of 5 stars

I have had one of these for six months and now I can sit on the sofa in comfort with my MacBook on my lap all weekend without it o r me overheating. I can even sit it on the arm of the sofa when I need to refill my coffee. I also have their desk stand and both products have a very solid feel to them and are the perfect accessory to your lovely Mac laptop.

  • This if perfect if you use your MB in bed!!

    5.0 out of 5 stars

When i first started using my new MacBook (in bed!!) I found that the crisp front edge of the Mac Book dug into my wrists and afte r a while became quite uncomfortable.

I saw the 13" stand advertised and it looked perfect......... well - it is and I am so glad i bought it

Although the front 'roll' can be a little high it help keep the MB on the stand really well - even if you use your MB at quite a steep angle. The 'roll' is covered in a slightly velvety material and its great quality.

The back leg of the stand swivel automatically to find the best angle and as it is also covered in material is does not dig into your legs.

The front roll comes off very easily for when you want to use it on a table - i only tried it quickly like this (its not why i bought this stand as I also have an iMac) and it seems to work fine as well.

The stand does seem to keep my MB cool - there is a big gap between you and the stand so you don't feel any warmth.

Overall i highly recommend this stand - it does exactly what it is meant to do - and looks good too! It is pricey but i think its worth it.

  • FALLS APART AND BADLY DESIGNED!

    1.0 out of 5 stars

I have had this product for less than 6 months.
I use this tray on the sofa and in bed... at first this product was great, light weight and perfect for keeping the macbook stable.
However after time, the front cushion lost its shape and kept falling off (Laptop being used on knee with slight angle).
Now less than 6 months later the rubber grippers have started to slide out of place leaving a gluey residue and not providing the grip given in initial first months.

(Would be a better product if perhaps the front cushion was replaced with a lip that prevented the laptop sliding forward)

I do not think that this tray is worth the money at all if you plan on using this on a regular basis! It has not been designed well enough for regular use!

  • Comfort for your Lap!

    4.0 out of 5 stars

This saves you the discomfort of burning your lap when you are using your MacBook, in particular when you are charging it. It is better than the solution of a book or a box as a lap rest as they still contact your whole lap making it uncomfortably hot over time. The iLap only makes contact at the front and back, leaving lots of room for air to circulate.

As the front cushion is removable it also quite easily slides away from it's intended position. It always remains attached (as it slides onto the rest of the body) but as it doesn't attach to the top of the body, it can be pushed towards the user. A little irritating, but bearable.

Finally, it must be said that the iLap seems very expensive for what its constituent parts: a very thin aluminimum body and two bits of cushion. However, it does the job fantastically, so if you know you need a decent lap rest I would highly recommend this one. However, if it didn't have the 'i' prefix in the name and subsequently was £20 I would say it is a must buy for any laptop user.

I wouldn't use a laptop without this -and I still haven't seen anything better.
There is no bod y heat from a desk, so of course using the stand on a desk is no problem. I bought my Rain Design iLap Stand over three years ago to use with my very warm MacBook Pro. I was working on it for hours a day during the summertime and it became too hot to set on a lap. This stand was a GREAT improvement over just setting it on a lap desk or board- I'd even say it was WORTH the money as it is more stable and less solid so the MacB Pro can be used on a lap for long periods of time. (You probably all now know that MacBook Pros do run hot as Apple assured me, but it's only a problem for the user or person not the Apple itself.)
The laptop and the stand remain two separate pieces. That makes it easy to move. I've never opted to take the stand out and about. I ALWAYS use it at home though. The space underneath the stand itself allows air to circulate, and a person's lap remains unaffected by the computer heat.
The four round plastic "feet" that you attach to your laptop keep the computer from sliding off the stand. Yes, it would slide all over without them. The stand arrives in a box that includes the little feet. (It also comes with an oblong detachable pillow. I don't use it at all.) The little feet do not get in the way when packing up the laptop in a travel case or bag. If you need more feet for other laptops you can purchase them directly from Rain Design for a reasonable cost including quick delivery. (The stand will out last computers.) :)
