Product Information

  • Overview

Designed to match the Apple MacBook Pro as well as Powerbook, iLap is made of aluminum with sand-blasted and silver anodized finish.

Whether on your desk, any other surface, or on your lap the aluminum draws heat from your notebook and dissipates it effectively.

The padded cushions (included) add extra comfort and allow use of your notebook on your lap, whether sitting or laying back in bed! The cushion can also be removed. The height of the support bar in the back can be adjusted to suit your needs. iLap is ergonomically designed to suit both lap and desk works, so you stay cool even with prolonged use. iLap raises your laptop screen higher to reduce strain on your neck and shoulders.

iLap is also suitable for other laptops.

  • Great Product

This is a great product..... very expensive for essentially what is a piece of aluminium but its worth it all the same. The pads a re great for the wrists and the plate itself keeps my Macbook Pro 10C cooler.

It's also fantastic for having the laptop on your knees.

  • iLAP OUTSTANDING STAND

    5.0 out of 5 stars

I've used this for the last 6 months & it's constantly proving its versatility.
Whether you're using your mac laptop on your knee , in bed or at a table, this stand can cope with all situations.
It's literally cool to use, none of that hot-lap syndrome, so you can use your laptop for as long as you want, wherever you want!
Aesthetically, it scores highly & tunes into the whole Apple stylish looks thang.
I would recommend this above any of the alternative lap stands, because it's not made of plastic (real aluminium) it doesn't look cheap (check the price) and it can cope with any situation you find yourself in!
    Truly the all-terrain of lapstands.

Was this useful? iLAP OUTSTANDING STAND
  • Good, but slightly problematic

    3.0 out of 5 stars

This is generally a very good stand which feels secure and comfortable. The only big problem is the front wrist rest. If you loo k at the picture, you can see that the front wrist rest is the ONLY thing holding up the front of the stand. As you rest your wrists on it (and thus press down on it), the front metal part of the stand tends to slide out of the groove in the wrist rest, thus making front of the stand (and thus the laptop) slowly slip down. If you don't mind re-aligning it ever-so-often, though, this is a great stand.

  • Its OK but....

    3.0 out of 5 stars

I wouldn't normally write a review but I felt I should for this. I did a lot of research before I bought and this seemed the most versatile and appropriate, however having now used it for a month it's full of flaws. The most irritating thing is that it isn't worth its very high retail price for a number of reasons: the first is that the front cushion is not particularly well made and is held on with velcro. Its actually very difficult to get it on and off the stand as the velcro keeps getting in the way. I work in an environment where I have to keep changing my work position in a day and this is not a particularly elegant or sophisticated solution again bearing in mind how expensive it is. The second thing is the the foam the cushion is made from slips and therefore does not give you the comfort it promises. The next thing, as observed by another reviewer, the macbook slides down as there is no holding mechanism. They ship it with a set of stick on pads but yet again its hardly elegant. This company sells itself on its design capability, so why haven't they design out these basic and very irritating flaws. It does however, keep the mac cool. Would I have bought it if I knew then what I know now? ... probably not.

This is a superb product. I've had it for about 4 months now and I use it ALL the time. It keeps the computer from getting warm or over heating. It is ergonomically correct and helpful with the wrist support. It brings the computer more to eye level when on your lap so you don't have to hunch over and get neck problems. And that's why I got it -- because I have had neck fusion and pain ever since and this is fabulous for my need to lean back in a chair and use the computer on my lap. The person who said the computer moves or slides didn't use the 4 little sticky rubber pads that came with the product that keep the computer in place. They keep it from sliding around, but you can very easily just lift it off. Since they are a kind of rubber on top, they don't harm your computer or leave any sticky residue at all. I bought my son this and he loves it too. He lays in bed and uses his computer on his lap and of course bends over or puts a pillow under it (bad, bad, bad; overheats the computer). He now uses this all the time. I rarely rave about a product or write a review, but this one is SUPERB.

  • great product but expensive

I have been searching for a solution for my macbook for a while. it is overheat and I use my macbook nearly 24 hrs aday. overheati ng has become an issue. with iLap is really helps with overheating, and especially to use with airmac. However, the price is really expensive and 6 mths after I bought it, I now need to source from US to get a replacement wrist pad and button sticker to replace it.
only buy one of this if you are a hardcore computer user. If not, you probably can get something cheaper

I wouldn't use a laptop without this -and I still haven't seen anything better.
There is no bod y heat from a desk, so of course using the stand on a desk is no problem. I bought my Rain Design iLap Stand over three years ago to use with my very warm MacBook Pro. I was working on it for hours a day during the summertime and it became too hot to set on a lap. This stand was a GREAT improvement over just setting it on a lap desk or board- I'd even say it was WORTH the money as it is more stable and less solid so the MacB Pro can be used on a lap for long periods of time. (You probably all now know that MacBook Pros do run hot as Apple assured me, but it's only a problem for the user or person not the Apple itself.)
The laptop and the stand remain two separate pieces. That makes it easy to move. I've never opted to take the stand out and about. I ALWAYS use it at home though. The space underneath the stand itself allows air to circulate, and a person's lap remains unaffected by the computer heat.
The four round plastic "feet" that you attach to your laptop keep the computer from sliding off the stand. Yes, it would slide all over without them. The stand arrives in a box that includes the little feet. (It also comes with an oblong detachable pillow. I don't use it at all.) The little feet do not get in the way when packing up the laptop in a travel case or bag. If you need more feet for other laptops you can purchase them directly from Rain Design for a reasonable cost including quick delivery. (The stand will out last computers.) :)
