Thin, minimal design.
The lightweight, durable Smart Cover has been completely redesigned for the all-new design of iPad Air. It protects your iPad Air screen without covering up its durable aluminium back. So your iPad still looks and feels like an iPad — just with a little extra protection.
The Smart Cover is made of polyurethane and comes in six great colours. It also features a soft, colour-matched microfibre lining that helps keep your display clean.
A hinge magnetically aligns the Smart Cover with iPad Air for a perfect fit, while magnets inside help it stay put.
The Smart Cover does double duty as a keyboard stand. Fold it back to tilt iPad Air into a comfortable writing position.
Wake on open. Sleep on close.
Open the Smart Cover, and iPad Air magically wakes up. Close it, and iPad Air automatically goes to sleep.
FaceTime and film stand.
The Smart Cover folds in just the right places to become the perfect FaceTime and film-watching stand.

New design not so good

This is especially a problem when using the iPad landscape with the cover folded at the top, to push the iPad forward when used on the knees. In these circumstances, the simple triangle "falls apart" and collapses. It is fine when used as a stand, of course. I think I shall have to look for an alternative, reluctantly. …

No damage done ! But I certainly have lost trust in the cover ! …

(So glad it's not just me!!) The magnets simply don't hold it together like the previous version which had the extra flap fold over for stability. This is a nightmare when typing as it falls apart, as well as when I hold it playing games (the triangle in the other was ideal to help grip if you were playing racing games!) i also find the triangle the wrong way around so it falls flat due to lack of stability (basic physics Apple?) Interestingly if you flip it around (ie so the rubber part would touch the screen) because the triangle base holds underneath the pad, it's more stable. Sad face. …

Faults should have been weeded out at prototype stage
I've upgraded from iPad 2 to iPad Air. I was v. happy with design and function of Smart Cover for iPad 2 ... and I just don't get I've upgraded from iPad 2 to iPad Air. I was v. happy with design and function of Smart Cover for iPad 2 ... and I just don't get why Apple could get the iPad Air version so wrong. I've tried to adapt my folding technique with the cover, thinking it just must be me not using the product right, but having seen the other reviews here, I realise the fault lies with the cover design. The apparent lack of prototyping the iPad Air Smart Cover for user experience doesn't mesh with
a company that puts so much thought into fantastic hardware design and into the user interface. Although the magnetic properties of the design allow you to form a kind of hollow 'toblerone bar' for horizontal or vertical support, the cover annoyingly and frustratingly just seems to flop about or flatten out with only a little pressure or movement by the user. This is due to the floppiness of the strip between the panelled section and the magnetic strip, plus the fact that the new 3-panel design is inherently weaker (cheaper?) than the preceding 4-panel cover. Poor design ... should be consigned to Room 101 to sit in company with Apple's irritating earbuds that over the years have been bundled with iPhones and iPods. I will stay faithful to the Apple Brand (20 years and counting) but am frustrated by irksome design faults in core accessories …

Poor Quality, Poor Protection

It falls down all the time, gets scratched up easily and doesn't even protect the chamfered edges.
Shockingly poor from Apple. …
