Thin, minimal design.
The lightweight, durable Smart Cover has been completely redesigned for the all-new design of iPad Air. It protects your iPad Air screen without covering up its durable aluminium back. So your iPad still looks and feels like an iPad — just with a little extra protection.
The Smart Cover is made of polyurethane and comes in six great colours. It also features a soft, colour-matched microfibre lining that helps keep your display clean.
A hinge magnetically aligns the Smart Cover with iPad Air for a perfect fit, while magnets inside help it stay put.
The Smart Cover does double duty as a keyboard stand. Fold it back to tilt iPad Air into a comfortable writing position.
Wake on open. Sleep on close.
Open the Smart Cover, and iPad Air magically wakes up. Close it, and iPad Air automatically goes to sleep.
FaceTime and film stand.
The Smart Cover folds in just the right places to become the perfect FaceTime and film-watching stand.

New design not so good
I am disappointed with the new official iPad Air cover, as the 3-segment design does not "hold together" as well as the 4-segment I am disappointed with the new official iPad Air cover, as the 3-segment design does not "hold together" as well as the 4-segment lid for the older iPads did. This is especially a problem when using the iPad landscape with the cover folded at the top, to push the iPad forward when used on the knees. In these circumstances, the simple triangle "falls apart" and collapses. It is fine when used as a stand, of course. I think I shall have to look for an alternative, reluctantly. …

(So glad it's not just me!!) The magnets simply don't hold it together like the previous version which had the extra flap fold over for stability. This is a nightmare when typing as it falls apart, as well as when I hold it playing games (the triangle in the other was ideal to help grip if you were playing racing games!) i also find the triangle the wrong way around so it falls flat due to lack of stability (basic physics Apple?) Interestingly if you flip it around (ie so the rubber part would touch the screen) because the triangle base holds underneath the pad, it's more stable. Sad face. …

No damage done ! But I certainly have lost trust in the cover ! …

Other reviews are inaccurate.
If you're one of the skeptical people wondering whether the new smart cover is actually any good, rest assured! Many of the other If you're one of the skeptical people wondering whether the new smart cover is actually any good, rest assured! Many of the other reviews severely underrate the Smart Cover saying that it won't hold properly on their screen or the magnets are too weak. Some even say that the 3 fold design is worse but in terms of stability, the old design has the same stability as this new one.
I was the owner of the original iPad 2 Smart Cover and this new version is far superior in every way. The hinge is made from polyurethane now meaning that it won't scratch the aluminium back, the magnets are much stronger and the material is softer.
Is it worth the money? Yes - because it works beautifully and the build quality is superb. Others may argue that the cover does not feel worth the price but I disagree; as there are third party cases which look good but functionally aren't as good as the Smart Cover. …

Note that no attachment can be attached to the front of the iPad as the cover completely and perfectly covers the front when closed. If your attachment attaches to the back of the iPad, you could use this cover but it would not open completely around the iPad. Think of this cover as the cover for a composition book you used in high school. It fits the iPad perfectly and folds all the way around to cover the back perfectly when your iPad is open. This cover does have two folds in it that allow you to prop the iPad up landscape or stand it more upright also landscape. If your attachment goes on the back and you will either use the cover as a stand or not mind pulling it off (it's only held on by magnets), then you're good. If that doesn't sound like how you'd like to use your iPad, keep searching. …
