Product Information

  • Thin, minimal design.

The lightweight, durable Smart Cover has been completely redesigned for the all-new design of iPad Air. It protects your iPad Air screen without covering up its durable aluminium back. So your iPad still looks and feels like an iPad — just with a little extra protection.

    Polyurethane design.

The Smart Cover is made of polyurethane and comes in six great colours. It also features a soft, colour-matched microfibre lining that helps keep your display clean.

    Magnetic connection.

A hinge magnetically aligns the Smart Cover with iPad Air for a perfect fit, while magnets inside help it stay put.

    Keyboard stand.

The Smart Cover does double duty as a keyboard stand. Fold it back to tilt iPad Air into a comfortable writing position.

Wake on open. Sleep on close.

Open the Smart Cover, and iPad Air magically wakes up. Close it, and iPad Air automatically goes to sleep.

    FaceTime and film stand.

The Smart Cover folds in just the right places to become the perfect FaceTime and film-watching stand.

The metal bar connection has now gone and been replaced with a fully covered 'side bar'.

I found that the cover has a bit of 'slide' when closed over the face of the ipad. The old design wouldn't budge but now the cover moves slightly and allows room for the screen to be scratched.

Keeps the screen clean and free of scratches, but when used as a stand it isn't strong enough to withstand you pressing the home button - need to put a hand behind it to steady it.

Magnet is strong enough to hold it in place over the screen, but not strong enough to hold it to the back when holding it; constantly find myself having to either hold the cover to the back, or just take it off.

After having read the reviews on here, I wasn't so sure, but once I had watched some video reviews from YouTube I was convinced it was the way to go.

The magnet attaching to the iPad is very strong, and the three sided triangle formed when flipped over is pretty stable, I've only had it collapse on me once, but other times I've been able to jab the iPad pretty hard without it doing so.

The polyurethane cover feels quite nice - better quality than some reviews here will have you believe - and the micropore inside keeps your iPad looking shiny and clean.

I was initially going to go for the red cover, but it seemed a little too bright in person, if it had been the same as the leather that would have been my choice, but the blue is a nice subtle shade that is pleasing to the eye!

Overall, if you're in doubt I would go for it. It is maybe in the pricey side at £35, but it feels well engineered (as expected from Apple) and that it will last a decent amount of time.

Overall, don't believe all the negative reviews you read, those that are unhappy will generally be the first to shout about it! Hope this helps to bring some balance, and help your decision in making a purchase!

I previously had the iPad2 with cover and based on the reviews I read, most people were complaining that the new design was substandard. Well in my honest opinion this is a load of nonsense. The new cover works just as well as the old cover. Yes, the magnetic strip is now plastic but that keeps it light. I was worried that with the cover it would make it much heavier but to my delight it actually still remains light (the whole point of the new iPad Air). Go out and buy it, you won't be disappointed.
