  • Automatic wireless backup.

AirPort Time Capsule includes a 2TB or 3TB hard drive that works with Time Machine in OS X to create the perfect no-hassle backup solution.1 There are no cables, and you can back up all the Mac computers in your home to a central location — automatically, wirelessly, and in the background.

    Ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Time Capsule gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.2 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Time Capsule now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Time Capsule and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Time Capsule can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Time Capsule. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Time Capsule features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Once setup i have noticed a massive performance increase across all my device from the superhub and the range is simply unbelievable! I used to have problems in my house with range but they are completely gone now, which is great. I was even able to add a WPS printer really easy too, from the base station menu, exactly what i was hoping for :-) All in all I am very happy and would strongly recommend this solution to anyone, regardless of skill level.

By the time I got it home and out of the box, set my Virgin Media Super Hub to Modem Mode, plugged in the AirPort Time Capsule, downloaded the latest firmware via the AirPort Utility App on my iPhone, I was done in 10 mins. It was so simple to set up and I've noticed a performance boost for all my wifi connected devices now. Time Machine is set up on my Mac, and backing up seamlessly in the background. The build quality is superb, as to be expected from Apple.

I have previously used an old Airport Extreme with hard-drive plugged in, which worked perfectly (until software updates to the Airport Utility made it defunct). However, please be aware: the new Time Capsule will not extend a WIFI network as suggested in the product literature, unless this is initiated from an Apple router. The only way satisfactory way to use this device is to hardwire it in to your DLNA router via ethernet. As far as I can see, the only reason to go for a Time Capsule in the first place, is so that it can be used as a wireless access point - which means it is not really fit for purpose!!! Since my DLNA router needs to be in our living room, near our Sky box, this is never going to work....

I advise everyone to read the support threads regarding WIFI set-up of this device, before even considering buying.

Mine will be going back to the local Apple Store tomorrow. What a waste of an evening trying to get it to work (not happy)....

Thi Works well as a router but hopelessly slow as a backup. 6 hours for 2GB. It's a bug but I'm not prepared to wait for a fix. This has to go back. far too expensive just for an Airport Extreme with an unusable hard drive. Meant to give zero stars but that's not an option.

Very st Easy to set-up out of the box, bearing in mind you'll need your username and password related to your ISP account to hand. Very straightforward to get Time Machine set-up for multiple accounts and machines, and the back-ups were pretty fast too. It's an expensive buy, but seems worth it for the kit you're getting, a good base station plus spacious hard drive, and piece of mind that everything is being regularly backed-up (and with Power Nap this is made even easier, happening over WiFi whilst the computer's in Sleep mode, if plugged into a power adaptor).

  • Excellent product but beware of awful packaging, falling time capsules....

This TC has a much smaller footprint on my desk and it's wireless range is greatly improved. The ease of setting this TC up means a 5 year old could probably do this. The automatic backups give great peace of mind too. If you have a lot of data or like to backup your mac regularly then i recommend you buy this. You won’t regret it. Sure it’s not cheap, but it does the job like no other backup drive/system.

CAUTION: IF YOU’RE LOOKING TO BUYING THIS....WHEN IT ARRIVES, MAKE SURE THAT YOU OPEN THE TIME CAPSULE BOX ON A BED OR A SIMILARLY CUSHIONED SURFACE. YOUR TIME CAPSULE WILL MOST LIKELY FALL OUT OF THE BOX AND ONTO THE SURFACE UNDERNEATH AS MINE DID....

Luckily I had read a previous review and I was still very careful, however when I opened mine over the bed it still fell out of the box. If I had not read this review I would most likely have opened it on my desk as I do most of my purchases and I would now have a dented/chipped/damaged time capsule. And Apple one severely annoyed customer…

APPLE - YOU REALLY HAVE TO IMPROVE ON THE PACKAGING FOR THIS PRODUCT and I'm deducting a whole 1 star just because of the LAME-ASS packaging. It really is awful and detracts from what should be and for the whole is a very easy and stress-free setup. I've used other backup drives and this is the best. Don't let some shoddy packaging ruin it.
