OK...
I bought one of these for my iPad Mini as I found the one on iPad 3 to be really useful as a cover AND as a stand. However, the st and functionality is rather limited on the mini really, and it often falls off.

More Flaws than Positives!
Overall the cover does what a cover is supposed to do, protect the screen.
I thought the new fabric covered hinge magnet would be great to stop scratches which can be cause with the original metal Smart Cover hinge. But it just makes the hinge a bit flexible and it moves all over the place! Never do I pull it out my bag or coat and the cover is aligned like the pictures! The iPad is hideous to hold when the cover is folded back, what a rip off!
I find myself using a sleeve to protect the iPad mini instead cheaper and works well!

Design disappointment and very expensive.
Yes, it is a cover of sorts, though completely inferior to the leather version I had on my iPad 2. The magnet is not strong enoug h, it does'nt stand up and the material and colours are poor quality. The polyurethane covered hinge is a disaster and has a very short shelf life. Apple need to look to their designers and see what is going wrong. You can't afford this sort of slide in quality in a market rife with impressive competition. …
