This is nothing wrong with the product at all and it works great! The problem is... if you are using Macbook Air and you need to connect to extra monitor with thunderbolt you are out of luck. Either have this or the thunderbolt to DVI/HDMI adpter. I never thought of this until I bought it went home and had the "Ahhhh moment". Get the USB version instead. If you never care about extra monitor ever at all or you don't need to do presentation on bigger screens then sure go ahead.

Luckily I had a wireless connection available so tried Software Update and lo and behold there was a Thunderbolt Update available. Installed that and rebooted and the adapter worked perfectly.

I did install the Thunderbolt update from Software Update before first using this adapter, but all works fine, great product and good use of thunderbolt connectivity, about time such an adapter exists.
Simply plugged it in to an ethernet cable and it worked instantly. I turned off wifi before first using just as a precautionary measure, to prevent any glitches or hiccups etc. after reading a few negative experiences first using this adapter, but all is fine.
All we need now is a thunderbolt to thunderbolt x 4 hub or a thunderbolt splitter to take full advantage of the blazing fast speeds offered.

I use this with a MacBook pro.
I'm not sure if the magnetic connection is strong enough, as a slight (and I mean slight) adjustment in working position results in the network connection being lost.
I generally love Apple products, but would seriously think twice before purchasing this adapter, especially if you're prone to moving your laptop whilst working (on your lap for instance).

It's a shame however that the thunderbolt plug and socket are not nearly as sturdy as ethernet, and come out far too easily, which is very frustrating.

But the real issue is that the computer doesn't come with an ethernet port. I can understand in the case of the macbook air that they are all about thinness, and ethernet is fractionally thicker than thunderbolt. But a MacBook Pro should not be without ethernet. Professionals using these machines rely on ethernet all the time for transferring large amounts of data. The photography, film and music industries all use ethernet to transfer data to and from computers and servers. And carrying around a flimsy adapter that falls out of it's socket with a gentle nudge just isn't a viable option. But until Apple changes their "pro" design, I guess we're stuck with these silly, flimsy and overpriced things.

However, I have to knock a star because it does significantly reduce battery life. Prior to using this, I could use my macbook air all day with about 40% power left, when using this, my batter was flat just before the end of the day, so it uses like 70% more power. I am having to use this sparingly to conserve power.
