The Apple Digital AV Adaptor routes digital audio to screens that support it. Connect the Apple Digital AV Adaptor to your iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S or iPod touch (4th generation) via the 30-pin dock connector, and to your HDMI-compatible display using an HDMI cable (sold separately). A second 30-pin connector built into the AV adaptor lets you charge and sync your device while it’s connected to your HDMI-compatible display.

Excellent piece of kit.
Just the job works perfectly. You will need an HDMI cable to act as your extension cable. Note the extra connection that will let you charge the iPad as you use it to play through your TV etc. Note also that when you connect to your iPad it locks to it, (to stop accidental disconnection) when you want to detach, use the little release button at the side not really visible.Works fine with Youtube, BBC player ITV player, iTunes movies and most useful in my case Netflix movies streamed from the internet. Used with new iPad no problems at all. …

Works fantastic but be aware of app support for the component.
I bought this so I could play games and Video on my TV through my iPhone and iPad. And as I expected it works exactly how I expect ed it.
I didn't even realise that there are even some apps and games that are optimised for this cable such as Real Racing HD which turns my iPad into the controller while the racing occurs on screen. Absolutely fantastic.
My only gripe is not with the component but with certain apps, such as Sky Go, Sky Sports, Love Film and I'm sure there are others that won't work with the component at all, so it won't even mirror whats is on screen in those apps. It would have been nice to be able to watch Sky on my friends TV with Sky Go but what can you do! …- Written by Adam D from Heston

Does not work on SkyTV
In the UK it works on TVCatchup but there is no picture on SkySports, just audio - no video. Is this a Sky lockout - or what?

Hi Jane,
If you have good wireless internet at home (WIFI connection) your best bet is looking at t he Apple TV.
A little more expensive but will play all your iTunes movies and tv shows wirelessly from the iPad, that way you can have the iPad in your lap, no balancing act required :) …- Answered by Kimberley B from Lisarow

I just bought the adapter today for my iPhone 4S with iOS 6.1.3. Apparently, the AFL and Telstra ha ve blocked the live stream to TVs, rendering the cable useless to the app. All I get when I hook it up is sound without picture. So no, you cannot stream the video to your TV any more. …
