I am very gentle and careful with all my electronic items! There is no visible wear or anything like that, just all of a sudden I just couldn't get internet anymore. For the price it really doesn't last - Apple needs to sort this out as they obviously are not built for the long run! Going to pursue getting my money back! …

It always worked like a charm. But the quality of the cable is poor to say the least. I had the cable for almost 2 years now and the rubber has disintegrated, leaving the internals of the cable exposed. You might think, well 2 years... but £25 pounds for an adaptor for a macbook air (that does not have an ethernet port) I think it should last way longer than that! Also, considering I live in the UK there is not even the excuse of extreme heat that might have "cooked" the cable coating.
Shame that some of those apple products are so poor and cheap. …

Stopped working after a month
I brought this a while ago, and it worked perfectly for about a month, before entirely stopping working and not being recognised. I have been careful with it and it seems to be a software problem, the actual adapter is physically fine. I have spoken to apple customer support and they were useless. Definitely save your money and buy a cheaper one, you will not be better off with an apple one, as I trusted I would have been. …

No visible wear and had not been carrying it around or using it roughly. Simply used it 5 days a week, 9-5 for 2 months, detaching it 1-2 times a week to move my laptop and it suddenly stopped working yesterday- shocked at the poor quality, given the price tag. …

After seeing this done on youtube, i tried this and was able to connect this apple usb ethernet adap After seeing this done on youtube, i tried this and was able to connect this apple usb ethernet adaptor via a powered usb hub, to the apple usb camera adapter and finally to my iPad 4. It works. It mean faster internet for the security conscious out there.
It helps to test this set up by pluging the main usb lead from the hub into my 'mac'. Once i saw the IP address, it was a simple matter to unplug that main usb lead from the mac, and place it instead into the ipad's usb adaptor.
I'm told there are other uses for the usb camera adaptor besides importing pictures, midi keyboards etc, but this has to be done via he powered usb hub.
