Overview

Apple Remote with iPod and iPhone

If you connect your iPod to a home stereo, powered speakers or TV set, the Apple Remote lets you experience your songs, slide shows and more from across the room. Plug your iPod into the Universal Dock and choose a play list, slide show or video. Then sit back, relax and enjoy. Ready to move on to the next song? No need to get up. Just press the Next button on the Apple Remote. Getting a call on your iPhone? Press Pause, then pick up where you left off.

Please note a Universal Dock is required in order to use the Apple Remote with your iPhone or iPod.

Apple Remote with Mac

The Apple Remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos and DVDs from anywhere in the room. It works with Front Row - a menu-based, full-screen interface - to make accessing the digital content on your Mac as simple as navigating your iPod. When you press the Menu button, your desktop fades and the sleek, Front Row interface takes its place, to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Videos folder and your DVDs. Turn up the volume. Shuffle. Skip to the next chapter on your DVD. Play a slide show, a home video that you made in iMovie, even a film trailer.

Compatible with Apple products introduced in 2005 or later that have a built-in infrared (IR) receiver.

    3 Stars for a reason

I've had the previous generation of the Apple Remote and I prefer that to the new one. I find the new one big and no additional features have been added. Would have been good to have the iPod Nano like click wheel feature added - however I guess Apple have been so focussed on the aluminium design that they couldn't have bothered upgrading it.

If you've never owned an Apple remote - you will probably like it. If you've got an older one, don't bother upgrading as it has zero, zilch, nada additional benefits over the older one.

    Good Remote

Just arrived this morning, was a bit hesitant in ordering as there were conflicting opinions if this would work with my mackbook 13 alu, fortunately once i waded through the large amount of packaging and the very large box it come in i just pointed at the mackbook and it went straight into frontrow, works like a charm straight out of the box 5 stars for apple product, 1 star for the amount of excessive packaging they sent it in, thought that they were supposed to be reducing packaging on all of their products?

Anyway works brilliantly now i can enjoy watching and listening to my music remotely, yes i know that you can do this with the iphone app it just looks so much better in front row, again 5 stars for apple.

    Surprisingly large

    • Written by from Leamington Spa

The first thing I thought when I saw this remote was: it's huge! Well, not exactly huge, but about 40% longer than the previous generation and approximately the same width. Has a pleasingly solid feel and excellent quality construction, but not ideal if you just want a small lightweight clicker that's easy to slip in your pocket, hence the lower rating. More

    great looking, okay functionality

great looking product and blends in well with my mac. i got it with my universal dock and it worked great but i was a bit disappointed that you couldn't scroll up or down to select movies or music but you could still navigate through menus? i found a way to use the remote from my amp to control the dock so i tried the apple remote with my iMac and it was well integrated with iTunes and i didn't even have to configure it witch was fantastic. sad to see front row go though as i was looking forward to it and it is a bit bad to still advertise this remote on the website saying that it opens up front row when it doesn't exist. still a great looking remote with some great functionalities. The remote looks amazing and compliments any mac! Works well with XBMC!
The remote was massively overpackaged though and definately wouldn't have fit through a letterbox More

The above answer is almost correct. The new MacBook October 20, 2009 white unibody does not
    support the Apple Remote.

    These Macs do:

    Pre-October 20, 2009 MacBooks
    Mac Minis
    AppleTV
    MacBook Pros
    MacBook Air
    iMac G5 iSight
iMac Intel Core Duo and Core2Duo

The best place to get one is at the Apple Store. You can also get one from amazon.com for the same price, but combined with shipping it will cost more and you'll have to wait. If you haven't been to a Apple Store, get on Google Maps and search for the nearest one. Besides being a store, it's also a fun place to be.

P.S. The current Apple Remote will work with the 1st and 2nd generation Apple TVs.

Yes, the remote can be used to control PowerPoint but it's important to know which version of PowerPoint you're using. The remote can not control PowerPoint 2004. I know the remote will control either PowerPoint 2008 or PowerPoint 2011. More
