limited potential
having just bought both a new MacBookPro and MacPro i was looking for a good monitor, but this replacement for the very olde 30" C inema Display (which was overdue for a replacement 3 years ago) seems to be made for the non-pro user who just wants to be dazzled by the image rather than seeing what is really there.
it also seems to be limited, without spending a fortune on extra cables/adapters for this use and that use, to the newest macs only, will only reach a MacPro that is on the desk next to the screen (rather than the usual habit of keeping the desktop UNDER the desk) due to the short length of the main cable, will not directly connect to an Apple TV, etc etc
worse still is the fact that i was advised to NOT buy an Apple monitor by an Apple One-To-One advisor sinc in addition to the poor screen for pro use, it has been designed more to look good, rather than to keep the screen at optimal temperature (the screen housing should have a lot of air holes in order to keep the screen cool, the wrap-around design, although admittedly gorgeous, is not what the components require for a long life at the correct colour
so, the conclusion is that Apple have moved to the consumer market, left the pro out of it, and have forgotten that the initial crusade to build the best has been sideswiped by a desire to sell the prettiest

Awful
The glossy screen is only good for watching movies and viewing pictures in bright colourful detail. It is no good for professional work where you need the screen to display brightness and saturation as close to the printed item as possible. We have also had to rearrange the desks so that no one is sitting with a window behind them due to the glare.
As for the cable length! How close do you think we're going to put our G5 to the monitor!!? I would defintely opt for a bigger, cheaper alternative with a matte display. …- Written by Roopesh P from Glapthorn

Great display, none of the problems others have speculated on
It's not entirely clear, but PA from London seems to have written his review based on his impressions of the monitor without actua lly having bought one.
I bought one recently to sit alongside the 27" iMac I use, professionally, every day for programming and have to say it is great. Yes, it would be nicer if it was a little less glossy (hence only 4 stars) but the display is wonderful. Very precise and clear, the colours are bright and punchy and it's just as good for watching videos as for working on.
No problems with heat - the back is cool to the touch even after hours of use. This is LED backlit, after all, which generates far less heat than tungsten backlighting.
The only significant issue with it for me is that it sits a lot lower than the screen on the iMac. However, I have discovered that using a first-generation AppleTV lifts it to be almost exactly the same height :-) …- Written by Doug C from Forest Row

Cracking display, good at everything.
Produces the best quality picture I have seen on any computer display. A joy to use either for serious work or watching Dr Who in HD on iplayer.
The unit is cool to the touch after running all day long. Eye strain has been greatly reduced over my past screen on an old Mac.

Disappointed
First off I need to be clear here. I love Apple products, I think their fantastic.
A week ago I bought a 27" LED Display to li nk up to my early 2011 iMac as I do allot of video editing for a living. I was so happy with the display, and even though its not the cheapest monitor in the world, I did expect it to be the most reliable. I had this monitor for 1 week, and the screen went funny on me. I restarted it, and the same happened again. You couldn't see anything, and it took about 3 or 4 attempts of closing it down and starting it up for the screen to slowly go back to normal, and even then it wasn't 100% as you could still see problems. Now I even had Apple insurance on this, but I felt that my experience getting this display and using it to its full potential was let down. Mainly due to the fact that the product is expensive, you expected it to last allot longer than one week.
Maybe I got a bad one, and to be fair the Apple store offered to swap it, but I've been abit put off now. Maybe I'll wait till after Christmas, and try again. …- Written by Austin R from Liverpool

Lack of 30" is an issue for Software Developer
I agree with PA from London in as much as that the loss of the resolution of the new monitors and gentleness to the eyes is a big disappointment.
For a software developer vertical pixel count and the fantastic anti-glare surface of the old 30" Cinema display is of far greater importance than the wide-screen glossy or latest anti=glare appearance of the latest monitors.
The old 30" inch monitor has a vertical resolution of 1600 allowing you to see that extra vital amount of source code and the image it produces is much more gentle on my eyes.
Unfortunately, software developers are not in the majority so I do not think this is going to change. I am not sure what I will do if my 30" monitor should ever break. I think Apple should do more for their software developers as they are vitally important to the future of any OS. There is a direct relationship between screen-size and a programmers productivity.

Yes, the Atlona AT-MDP21 2X1 Mini Display Port KVM Switch (Powerless) works great for me. I use it with a Mac Mini (server) and a Mac Pro 8 core hooked up to a 27" apple LED display using only mimi display port cables. I have a new 27: and an older one and it works great with both.
