    Good value for money

    • Written by from Petersfield

This version of the World Travel Adaptor kit costs £29 (only £10 more than the standard iPod USB charger) but comes with 5 additional plugs. That makes it £2 per plug adaptor, and these are the official Apple ones. Bargain IMO More

    Missing a vital component

    • Written by from Edinburgh

Although the kit has plenty of bits, it's not necessarily the same as plenty of value. Some of the bits are redundant (you'll already own at least one of them) or superfluous (a separate adaptor just for Korea?). You may find it more appropriate to buy non-Apple adapters that you specifically need.

More vitally for me, it's missing the last remaining adapter that it needs to truly be a 'world' kit, that is, an 'empower' adapter for use on international flights. Come to that, why not include a 12v adaptor for use in cars?

Come on Apple, throw in the 'empower' adapter and make this kit truly global!

Travel light and charge your gear from anywhere

    • Written by from Edinburgh

I initially bought this kit to use the plugs with my MagSafe charger, but the inclusion of the USB charger and iPod cable make this 2009 edition of the Apple World Travel Kit better value than the previous ones (especially for iPod/iPhone owners). The charger is so small, and it can be used with other USB compatible devices like my smartphone (delivers 5V at 1A).
Everything is so well designed and space efficient that I now feel ready and light enough to tour the world in confidence ;-)

    Now updated for iPad

    • Written by from CAMBRIDGE

I bought one of these at my local Apple store yesterday, and was pleased to see that it now includes a 10W adaptor which will fast-charge the iPad, and the new thinner UK plug adaptor, which is much less bulky than the old one. The USB cable included is now the new style with the squarer ends.

For my money, this kit is much better value than the iPad charger itself - for an extra £5, you get a complete set of international plugs, and all you lose is the rather bulky and heavy 6' extension cable.

It would be nice, though, if Apple included some sort of case to keep all the bits together - even a simple drawstring bag would be nice.

Plug Adapters not suitable for China

    • Written by from WORCESTER

The Chinese plug adaptor does not fit standard mains sockets in China, the Australian one would, but the shrouding on the pins prevents it from being fully plugged in. It would also be good if Apple sold the plug adaptors separately. More

I am an Electrical Engineer. Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: The only things that is important for using any AC adapters overseas are the following:

    * You need to have the right type of plug. If you do not it will not fit, and if you force it, it could break.

    * The adapter needs to support the right voltage for input. Some of the world uses around 110 volts. The rest uses around 220 volts. Many digital devices have power adapters that support both, which is often written as 100-240V or sometimes 110-240V. As long as it support both you are good. If it does not things get messier, and I won't get into them here.

    * It must support the correct frequency for input. Again some parts of the world use 60 Hz, the rest uses 50 Hz. Just about all AC adapters support both. If the do they will say 50-60Hz.

So looking at the iPad charger:

Does it have the right plug? Probably not, but with this kit you can change the plug, so now it has the right plug.

Does it support both 110V and 220V? Yes it does. It supports from 100V to 240V.

Does it support both 50Hz and 60Hz? Yes.

Therefore: With the kit and your iPad charger it will work pretty much anywhere on earth, and even on the space station!

The last number for input is Amperage. It is related to how much Current or "Juice" it uses. You really don't need to worry about that, as all AC adapters use little enough current that they will work anywhere.

The USB power adapter you get with an iPhone works with 110-240V power, so if you have one of those, you will be fine according to another answer on this site. More

It will charge the iPad (slowly) if it's not in use and the screen is off. The iPhone charger is 5 watts and the iPad requires 10 watts for fast charging. More
