Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Doesn't work with data projectors
Written by DC from London

This adaptor is very disappointing. I found that it works fine with some small (20 inch) Samsung monitors that have a VGA input but it doesn't work with any of the data projectors I have in my university department so I can't use my new MacBook Pro (unipart aluminium case) for Powerpoint presentations, which was one of the main reasons for buying the laptop. The problem seems to be that the laptop senses the data projector ( and scales down the laptop display to VGA) but the projector doesn't detect the laptop (and so fails to display the image from the laptop screen). My old MacBookPro (Intel core duo) works fine with all data projectors (using the DVI to VGA adaptor) and I'm now in the silly position of having to use the old laptop for all travel (conferences etc) plus teaching in the university. The wonderful looking new MacBook Pro has to stay at home. Apple needs to issue a firmware fix or a better adaptor as soon as possible. …More

Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Absolutely Fantastic
Written by RM from Grimsby

Bought this product when purchasing a new iMac for the study in my house. I had also bought a new LG TV to go with it, i decided it might be pretty nice to wall mount the TV above the mac, and using it as an extended desktop when I need to focus on work and the TV shouldn't be on.
Constant praise should be given to apple for making such a seamless product, I switched the TV onto the VGA input, and connected the minidisplay port to the mac. Instantly I had an extended desktop.
It even allows me to tell the mac where the second monitor is, above it. This seems to be a problem for many Windows users that you cannot have an extended desktop above the original and dominant screen.
Overall, just five stars for absolute satisfaction, and just thank you Apple! For making such a superb product, (although the wire is a touch short). …More1 of 2 people found this useful

What cable do I require to connect my Mac book pro to my Sony Bravia LCD tv
- Asked by SO from CHIGWELL
- 07-Oct-2009
Best Answer
That depends on your computer and your TV. If you have a new MacBook Pro with DisplayPort output and your Sony TV has VGA and HDMI inputs like mine, you could use this mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter with a male-to-male VGA cable, or you could use a mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter with a DVI to HDMI adapter cable. The DVI solution is preferable because the mini DisplayPort to DVI is digital while VGA is analog. …More
