Ratings & Reviews

  • 13 inch Macbook battery dead after 9 months

    1.0 out of 5 stars

I am not very impressed with the longeivity of the latest generation of Macbook batteries. My laptop purchased 9 months ago cannot hold any charge having declined in capacity sharply over the preceding month. £99 to spend every 9 months just to have mediocre battery capacity really is very poor performance. Hope this is just a bad batch, but we are hostages to Apples battery provision if we want our laptops to remain mobile.

Just woke up to find a strange symbol where my battery "life" indicator was - apparently there is now no battery available. I bou ght my macbook in February and it is now May. There is clearly a problem here which Apple needs to address.

  • Apple Macbook Battery

I guess these batteries are now supplied by different manufacturers who have different ideas about performance and longevity. My 2 008 Macbook with its OEM battery now lasts for about 1.5 hours, it shows a charge cycle of just 274 and tells me to service the battery. So, and I bought a new battery from Apple about 14 months ago, it now last for about 3 hours and shows a cycle count of 36. This battery isnt going to last much longer.
Compare that to my Daughters Macbook from 2007. The battery lasts over 6 hours and shows a cycle count of 1093, condition normal.

    Doesnt add up does it?

  • 81 eighty one? EIGHTY ONE!

    1.0 out of 5 stars

After 81 charge cycles I had one of these replacements die on me. More than £1/per charge cycle.

The original lasted, from rele ase day, to autumn 2011. The replacement barely made it to the following summer...

Yes there is a difference between the two of them. It just has to do with they way the work and the life of the battery. However all you can get for the MacBook is the polymer battery. On mine I have had it over a year and I still get about 4 to 5 hours and I use it for internet and to take notes in college.

My cycle count was slightly above 350 when it began to tell me I should consider replacing it. It is now over 400 and telling me I should replace it soon. I intend to do so. I have a habit of letting it almost completely discharge before recharging it. I have had this unit for over 4 years and it has been my principal home computer.

In practice, this battery should give around four hours of continuous use with display set to minimu m, wifi and bluetooth on.
