I have also been impressed by how it works. There is much more to wish for in terms of functionality but the basics are good!
BUT! As a European you CANT buy additional notebooks. You need a certain type of notebook to use the pen, but there are no suppliers that can provide this in Europe. On livescribe's own store you have to be a US resident to buy additional note books and accessories. I have been in contact with their customer support numerous times. They keep on sending links to alternative stores but NONE of them have been able to ship to my address. They don't seem to care. Strange!
So for us Europeans the pen is worthless. What amazes me is Livescribe's own ignorance. Its like selling a car but not providing tyres. What's the point of that?
Don't understand how Apple could sell it on their web store given the above. …

The WOW factor
I'm gobsmacked. It's one of those things that just works in a way that makes you wonder why everyone doesn't already have one. You I'm gobsmacked. It's one of those things that just works in a way that makes you wonder why everyone doesn't already have one. You can just write a phone number on the pad then dial it from the app or navigate using Maps straight to an address thats just been scribbled on the paper.
Only downsides for me are; 1. the build quality is not as good as you might expect. It's acceptable rather than excellent. 2. The folio case has thick edges that distort the paper inside. This doesn't stop the pen recognising your writing though and I bought some A4 writing pads separately which work much better for me. …

I've been using this very pen for a few days now and whereas it's easy enough to get used to the new software and the way the pen needs to work, it doesn't really inspire great handwriting: The ballpoint nib is a little bit too slack and initially prevented me from forming my letters well. Surprisingly, the handwriting recognition software has more trouble reading my block capitals than my joined up writing.
I'm still trying to get it to do all the neat tricks they show in the videos, but it's a learning curve.
Add to this the FACT that it has real difficulty in low light conditions - for all these reasons and maybe on the harsh side, I only gave it 3 stars.
I would have given it 4 stars had it not been such a loose nib...and 5 stars had I been able to do all the tricks right out of the box. …

I have had no Have had the pro version of the pen about two weeks now and am very impressed - it just works as Steve used to say. I have had no problem getting additional notebooks and pen refills. I write in my book, the notes can be synched to either iPad or iPhone as you write or to both of them later. The text recognition is very quick and relatively accurate and can be flipped at will between your handwriting or the converted text. You can voice record as you write if you have pad or phone with you. Notes can be converted to a number of uses including the Reminders app. I sense a big future for this device.
