In Hard drives fill up very quickly, no matter how much storage space they have. I use them mostly for backups and media storage. In terms of space, this Porsche drive has plenty of it, at least for the moment. It's well built, and plenty fast with USB 3. Design-wise it's great and looks better in life than on the photo. …

Failed after 3 months and very little use. Apple won't touch it or exchange

It will not mount from any of my mac computers Having used this drive for a few months very in frequently, it appears to be dead. It will not mount from any of my mac computers running Yosemite and Mavericks. The blue light does not come on, but there is a tiny flicker when I connect the power. I bought it 30th September 2014, 4 months ago so Apple will not touch it, exchange it or refund as it is third party.
Am awaiting for a response from Lacie who only deal with such issues via their website.
I hope I at least get my data back somehow. …

Yes and no. You can NOT plug one hard drive directly into 2 computers. It will only be usable by whi Yes and no. You can NOT plug one hard drive directly into 2 computers. It will only be usable by whichever computer connected to it first, the other computer will be ignored. However, if you set up the first computer as a server you can access the same drive from multiple computers. Connect the hard drive to a Mac and go to your system preferences. Under "Sharing" in the Internet and Wireless row. In the first box (Shared Folders:" click the plus at the bottom left and select the hard drive you want to share. When you have selected it, you can click on the hard drive in the System Preferences window to change your privacy settings by setting Users who can access it. If you are setting it up at home I'd set Everyone to Read & Write. On the second Mac, open a Finder window and click "Go" then "Connect to Server" then, in the window that appears, "Browse". Click on the Mac the hard drive is connected to and you should be able to access it as if the hard drive were plugged into the second Mac.
It will work over Wi-Fi, but you really should have your Mac's connected by an Ethernet cable. It is MUCH faster and more reliable and the cables are very inexpensive. …

I've got all my iTunes and Aperture data on an external drive and the iMac locates all the info and works just fine. I've then set my Time Machine to backup the external drive in addition to my internal iMac drive. My goal was the same as yours, to reduce the amount of space on my internal 1T iMac disc. It all works perfectly! You can find directions on how to set this up online - sorry I don't recall offhand exactly where I got the directions to do this.
