LaCie’s Rugged external hard drive now offers lightning-fast speeds of USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, and full compatibility with USB 2.0. Its shock-proof design protects from accidental drops from up to 1.2 metres. Coupled with its universal compatibility, this external drive is robust and easy to use. Whether the goal is super speed or complete compatibility, the Rugged Thunderbolt has everything users need.
Thunderbolt is a revolutionary I/O technology that supports high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices via one simple port and a cable that carries both DisplayPort and PCI Express data. And it’s standard on every Mac.
PCI Express is the technology that links all the high-performance components in a Mac. And it’s built into Thunderbolt, which means you can get PCI Express speed outside the box.
Thunderbolt gives you up to 10 Gbps in both directions, allowing for super-fast data transfer between peripherals. You also have enough bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices without using a hub or switch.
Thunderbolt also provides double the power of USB 3.0, delivering 10 watts to peripherals for improved performance on the go.

I wanted a drive to transfer projects from my home studio to the professional studio, but I found that this drive was actually fast enough to use as a production drive. Now I keep my video projects on this drive and work directly from it. …

Great price especially considering the included Thunderbolt cable which Apple sell for £39! Just plugged into the Tb socket on my iMac and ran the small Lacie setup and seconds later happiness! Only drawback this drive only has the one thunderbolt socket so no piggy backing, but it does have USB2/3 for older machines that may not have thunderbolt connectivity. Overall highly recommended! …

This thing is heaps rugged, I've dropped it more times than I care to admit, and it's still going strong. It stores hours of footage, and it's fast enough to run the files direct off the drive. …

It's got great speed, a lot of room, it resists shock (I can speak as the voice of experience on this one), you don't hear a peep from it and it doesn't need an external power supply. It works absolutely fine, and doesn't overheat. …

In short: I am very pleased with this drive. …
