However, the bottom part of the case two of the joint parts have broke.. (in about 2weeks) so now it kinda sides in and out now.. still works though..
Another thing, it does make your rMBP to heat up faster (if you're doing any high performance usage this will most likely cause it to heat up)..
But all in all an good product if you just want some protection... …

Retaining clip broken

I bought the Speck 15" SmartShell Case approximately 5 months ago, and have managed to break one of the retaining clips on the lower shell.
I think this is a design flaw as I am not the only person to have suffered a broken retaining clip - the width of the plastic is too narrow, or the material isn't flexible enough.
The SmartShell adds a considerable amount of weight to your Macbook, which makes one handed handling of the Macbook at arms length more difficult.
Price - seems expensive for 2 sheets of plastic.
Protects the Macbook very well (even with a broken clip) - I have kids and if I didn't have the SmartShell fitted, the Macbook would be covered in a multitude of scrapes and scratches from the kids and from being carted around in my briefcase with other equipment.
Overall it's a good idea, but the clips need better designing.
A thin film of stick on plastic would be a better idea. …

Almost each corner has now cracked and broken off. The top part of my Mac Book is perfect however, the underneath is a different story. From the moment I had my Mac it has always had this case on. I tend to take the case off and wipe down my Mac. It was then I discovered a numerous amount of tiny scratches. I couldn't understand why my Mac would have so many scratches. It seems that this 'Case' lets in dust or tiny bits of dirt which rubs against the case and causes the scratches.
If you want to keep your Mac pristine... DO NOT BUY THE SmartShell Case for MacBook Pro with Retina Display!
I would suggest a more softer case. For the amount you pay for it, it should be protecting your Mac, not scratching and damaging. …

Good case shame about the quality of the clips that hold it to your macbook
Its a great case it will protect your MacBook from scratches as its designed to do.
However after a couple of months the clips Its a great case it will protect your MacBook from scratches as its designed to do.
However after a couple of months the clips that hold it onto your MacBook base especially at the mouse end of your MacBook will fail and fall off, rendering this product useless, the quality is not the same as the old version it replaced which I might add lasted 3 years on my previous Macbook, not the two months it has on my new MacBook Pro. …

Fits snugly and makes the laptop far more robust. My first PowerBooks were always bending and my MBPs took lots of looking after but were just too bulky when this was added.
As the retina is so slim, it can take the extra bulk that these covers inevitably add but it makes the machine so much easier to grip.
It also gives much more confidence when placing it down. …

Gives the desired protection, although the case is prone to scratches

So far it has done a good job of I've had the clear version of this case for a couple of months now and overall I'm happy with it. So far it has done a good job of protecting my Macbook Pro. I haven't had any problems with the retaining clips breaking off so far, as was highlighted in other reviews, but I only keep my laptop around the house for the most part, with the occasional bit of transport in a car, so maybe I'm not best user to base this durability on.
The main fault with this case, in my opinion, is that it is very easy to scratch. I bought the clear case to preserve the cosmetic appearance of my Mac, but when I was putting the case on for the first time, I had one side of case installed on my machine and placed that side face down on a table, and while in the process of installing the other side of the case, I was shocked to see that managed to get a big scratch across the case where I had placed it on the table. I checked the table and there was no major dirt that I would expect to cause this kind of scratch. If you are installing this case, I recommend that you place your the case on a towel or soft cloth while you install.
Regardless of that, I think if you put this type of case in backpacks etc, you can expect the case will get scratches, although this should not impact how the case protects your Mac! …
