I'm not sure who answers the questions on these products but I can only assume they haven't bought one and are purely speculating. Let's clear up the UK 220V issue straight off. It IS 220V and works perfectly in the UK. Any mention of 110V is for the US plugs and is nothing to do with the UK plug. If you walk into an Apple Store and take a look at the bottom of the box it makes it quite clear that the plug is a 220V version.

Unfortunately Apple are using the US photos which doesn't help the confusing but trust me, it's the UK plug and will work fine.

Onto the device. It's a fairly bulky thing and very similar to the old plugs you'll have seen for turning your lights on and off when on holiday. Well this of course does exactly that but it works remotely so you can be switching your lights on and off from anywhere in the world. The other very useful feature is the ability to set times for the switch to come on and off and at set times including picking specific days. As you add more switches you just give them custom names and before you know it you've got home automation in the palm of your hands.

This really is a great device that does exactly what it says on the tin.

Brilliant product. So useful and simple to set up and use. Better than those light timers when your away. I even use it to switch lights off when the wife is home to make her jump. Worth getting one for that!

This white plug-in-plug adapter is a very simple gadget to set up. Previous experience with these WiFi enabled things has been pa tchy, but this was incredibly easy. Plug it in, press the button and then configure the WeMo through the easy to use App. Simple. I was expecting a tricky part, but there wasn't one.

If you are keen to explore further, you can set rules from the App itself and activate, or deactivate them remotely, simply switch it on and off remotely, or if you are really adventurous, you can register for "If This Then That" which is a web-based system which enables you to link the WeMo to external "Actions", like a website reporting that the sun is setting in your area, or that the temperature will be below zero that day...

Unbelievably simple, and the possibilities are almost endless.

Get one. Then see how long it takes before you are thinking about getting another...

  • Wifi drops and switch needs to be manually reset

    1.0 out of 5 stars

Easy set up and worked well initially but every time my Wifi drops the switch has to be manually reset, not much good if I am away from the house.
Now I cannot see the switch over the internet, it will only work over the Wifi.
Would not recommend or buy another one of these products. Great idea but not working as I had expected and Technical Support poor.

  • Cannot see device when connected to same WLAN

    2.0 out of 5 stars

Yes these are great devices and a fantastic idea, but mine just doesn't work as it should - so I will not be buying anymore. The set up is very simple and once configured I could see it on my iPad4 and my iPhone5, but after a day or so, it disappears from the App when I am connected to my home network - if I go on 3G, or connect to someone else network, they appear - this is really frustrating, and the only way to see it again is to unplug it and plug it back in.
Support is quick to reply but could not fix my issue - also the support website is poorly set out and difficult to navigate.
Next time I will go for the Lightwave RF equipment, more expensive but there is a lot more choice.

  • Great product concept but more stability needed

    2.0 out of 5 stars

I have 3 WeMo switches and have used them for around 3 months. The WeMo app is on 3x iPhones (2x 5's and 1x 4S) and 2x iPods (2 an d 4).

He WeMo is a great concept, set up is easy and the app is nice and simple. Setting up rules is easy too (eg to activate at a certain time of day or day of week). Also the Internet (rather thang just local WiFi) is. Really neat easy to use feature.

However there is a major problem.

At least one of the three WeMo switches over the three month period i have had them goes wrong and needs manually re-booting every week. The reliability just isn't there for any remotely serious use.

Come on Belkin - get your act together! Great concept but very poor execution. You can, and must, do better.
