    Great product. Shame it's necessary

    • Written by from Milton Keynes

Office 2011 is by far Microsoft's best attempt to publish Mac friendly productivity software. The look and feel of all of the applications is just similar enough to their Windows counterparts that new Mac users won't feel left out, while remaining true to core Mac principles for ease of use and stability. I would go as far as to say that MS have surpassed the Windows version here. It's also a better price point. All three main products feel less bloated, more intuitive, and overall much slicker. Messenger for Mac is now a pretty good app, utilising video as well as test messages.

It is a shame, though, that Office is still necessary. It does almost nothing significantly better than the fully featured, better priced iWork (although I do love MS's SmartArt in PowerPoint). Trouble is, so many business have MS so deeply engrained in their tech infrastructure that most users need the easy portability of file formats without the hassle of export/import routines or converters.

Very good product, but it is overpriced.

    • Written by from Thisted

This product makes it much easier to work with other office users, who do not use mac. Besides that it runs much smoother than the older version.

However, the product is extremely overpriced. How can demand 149.95$ for this product, no student can afford that. This is not Apple's fault though, this is microsoft going ballistic with the prices. Actually if you buy it at Apple homepage you save 0.05$ on the product! How ridiculous is that?

WHERE THE "'EKY PECK" IS ENTOURAGE

    • Written by from Wokingham

I don't think anyone needs to say that MS OFFICE is brilliant. I purchased an IMAC in September with OFFICE 2008 home and student edition. The deal is you get an updated OFFICE 2011 home and student edition upgrade free.

Well, this week I got the upgrade, I haven't had time to see the differences (but I'm sure they will be great) BUT ENTOURAGE is no longer part of the package, you can BUY OUTLOOK though.

Why would you want to buy something that should be part of the package, it doesn't seem fair to me. If this is an upgrade it should include everything that was available before NOT reducing the package.

MICROSOFT have missed an opportunity to impress the MAC market. Not only should they have included ENTOURAGE in the package (even if it had been the older version) but the should also have included MS MONEY.

    Product ok, customer service awful

    • Written by from Oxshott

Nice to have Microsoft office on the mac. Seemless file sharing between windows and Lion. Although I do have instances where word and excel freeze for extended periods of time (5 minutes or more at times). Very frustrating, particularly as there is plenty of memory and processing power so it should not be an issue. Contacting customer support at Microsoft is a joke. Automated service that provides unhelpful suggestions (call us mon-fri 8-5 in the U.S.!!). My kids much prefer word and excel to pages and numbers so I guess it's a keeper for now... More

Good, but still a bit to go

    • Written by from Hørsholm

Macbook Pro with Microsoft Office installed.
It took a while to set up the connection to the server, but mainly because i did not believe how easy it was - I assumed it would be complicated.
Everything was running after 4 hours. Now I can do it in 20 minutes.

Be very careful when importing a Windows-based Outlook installation. It has to be done right, and carefully following the steps outlined in the guide. My Outlook database was close to 3Gb, so it took a while to crunch the data, but it happened and it works.

Major complaint is that a few of the routines from the 'old' outlook have disappeared. No central search engine any more - REALLY annoying. Only "Search This Folder" - no "Do you wish to continue searching". I truly miss that.

No drag&drop to folders - but the 'new way' is almost as fast, just have to get used to it.

No way to create a folder in the folder-list while inside the in-tray. You immediately fall into the created, empty, folder. Annoying flaw.

No compression functionality. Neither in PP nor in Outlook. I used to be able to make compressed PDF from my PPT files, now it is merely a change of format at retained size. Really annoying! If I send the files to my old Windows machine, compress and mail from there, the size may drop from 13Mb to 2,5Mb. Really annoying that Apple Outlook does not do this.

All in all - cannot sue Microsoft, since they do deliver what is stated on the package.
Not absolutely thrilled either, but it does work, and I do have the MacBook advantage everywhere else.
Yeah, I would still buy Office 2011 for Mac, should I build a new system.

I'm sorry to report it's absolute rubbish

    • Written by from HOOK

I bought this mainly for Outlook and to link with our MS Exchange server. Never has an email client been so difficult to get to work with Exchange and to keep the connection. It is absolutely hopeless and I have wasted so many hours.

All other devices in our network (Windows PCs, iPhones, iPads etc. etc.) all seamlessly work. Office for Mac (on my MBA) is rubbish. Same settings and it just connects, starts downloading the emails and then bombs out and asks for your password for the millionth time. I've Googled it and lots have the same problem. It's also the only programme I can run on my MBA that crashes.

Microsoft, you Excel (no pun intended) again.

No, at the moment there is no true version of Microsoft Office on the iPad. Microsoft have released a iPhone based version of Onenote, in USA & UK (English only) but that is the only one of the Office suit available.

You can use the Apple business software (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) on the iPad, though the document compatability is not that robust, so you may see document changes when transferring to another user (PC or Mac)

Personally I'd pay a bit more and get the Air (if budget allows) or a lower cost light & slim PC laptop

Very sad to say, it does not. I'm an ebook author and this is an extremely important feature for me to have. I have always been a pc guy and just recently made the switch to mac. I'm happy with many things about the mac but not being able to compress pics in word is terrible. When I work, I have to use my 5 year old pc!

Also, it is very frustrating that I can not have live hyperlinks in a pdf created on a mac. Again, I need to work on my 5 year old pc.

I spent a lot of money on this mac and I can't use it for work! Please fix these issues and make the resolutions available to mac owners. I want to be a loyal mac customer but I would never buy one again if I can't work on it. The features the mac is lacking are simple and have been available on the pc for years. It just doesn't make sense to me that the mac still doesn't have them.

I am sorry to inform you that iPad's use a similar operator system to that of an iPhone, iTouch, & iPods. These systems have their own third party software that you can purchase under APPLICATIONS in the the units themselves. The software available are not like the original Office from Microsoft. Microsoft has only released an Office for their Handheld phones and none are currently available for Apple units. More
