    Almost perfect.... almost

    • Written by from Leeds

I purchased these after first trialling the regular Solo Headphones in white. Big mistake, that was - I took no notice of the reviews that said the Solos were over-bassy (that's too much Bass, not reliant on the music of Dame Shirley), lacking in mids and treble, that the white covering discoloured and the build was shakey and shoddy. Oops. The sound wasn't all that and the discolouring was prevalent on the hinges. I took them back to HMV and the very helpful assistant kindly opened FIVE new sets for me in order that I could find a pair that wasn't discoloured in some way and the build wasn't right. So, I ended up taking my money and running.

Then I purchased these - the best headphones I've had to date. For an extra £20 you get so much more - the build quality is excellent now. No more being scared that they'll fall apart -the joints are reassuringly strong. The finish is no longer matte but shiny and glossy. I can't speak for what the white looks like as I purchased the black pair - but with a glossy pair, the black won't fade.

As for the sound - fantastic. The HD revision of the Solo range means the previous problems with too much bass have gone. Mids and highs are crisp, sharp and not every track automatically has too much bass.

As an iPhone 4 user, the remote/mic is a great feature - calls come in and people can hear me clearly; the call finishes, back to the tunes - much like on the Apple in-ear headphones if you have them. Incidentally, I've gone from a few years' use of the Apple in-ear... they've served me well but I keep them now for running.

The case is a very nice padded zip one and keeps the headphones nice and safe.

The only downside to this pair is if you are walking, you can hear your steps thundering along - not great if you're listening to, say, a spoken word podcast or something quiet... but it's a minor niggle because most of the time I'm listening to music.

So a 9/10 for these - recommended if you want to spend a bit more on a pair of headphones and are prepared to pay for quality.

These headphones are so good it's unreal. I bought them last Tuesday and went back to the apple store the NEXT day to buy pairs for both my brothers.

The carry case and cloth are perfect and well thought out accessories.

They are brilliant for any genre if music.

    Dr Dre. HD Solo's

    • Written by from SUTTON

Got the Bose OE a few months ago which were pretty good. But i really did want the Dr Dre's all along really but a bit dubious because the look expensive.

Got them the other day and OMG why did i wait. I am very fussy with sound as I love music and need a good soundock and earphones for my iPhone.

These are brilliant headphones. The bass isn't to much with great mids and lows. I listen to hip-hop/rap and Dance and these are great for it. I also listen to Adel and David Grey and the vocal sound is amazing.

Best of all, the don't leak to much compared to what people say. I hate it when earphones/headphones leak music but these are pretty impressive. 70% volume and these won't leak.

The headband has been improved with an added metal strip in the headband itself. So i am not too worried about them breaking.

I also have the Dr Dre Tour's and these are pretty impressive aswell.

£175 is steep for most people for headphones but these are worth the money.

    Well done Monster.

    Brilliant!

    • Written by from Barnard Castle

Although they are pricey these headphones are well worth it! The sound is rich and balanced and the bass is not muddy as other reviews say! They are comfortable and isolate noise well. If you need a portable headphone then these fold down to a tiny size!
However they do pick up fingerprints like nothing else (a problem easily fixed with the provided Monster Cleaning Cloth!)
Overall a very good pair of headphones!

    Love them!

    • Written by from Hellerup

The best overall headphones i have had. I have tried a lot, including Bose noise canceling headphones, and other in-ear headphones from Denon, Monster and Shure.
The bass is funky and crisp and with the new stronger construction, they feels better and more equipped to take out on the road.

    ok sound, extremely uncomfortable

    • Written by from Dublin

I shelled out for these thinking that because of the price they would be offer good performance, after 3 weeks the first pair I had broke the sound was very distorted, I had to pay to ship them back to Monster. The second pair have been working ok. My biggest issue with them is that after wearing them for an hour or so they get very uncomfortable and painful to wear. This is a problem for me as the amount I travel. I end up switching back to my apple headphones on long flights. More
