Yes you can... on the back of the monitor there is a cord that will plug into your mini display port. It will transfer video only. Audio transfer will require a separate cord such as an Auxiliary cord going from your Mac to the Monitor or Speakers.
You can also allow sound to play from your PRO or a Bluetooth audio stream.

FYI, all the models after 2010 transfer both audio and video through that mini display port not to Mention it's thunderbolt capability

  • Along with the MDP port, if your Mac cannot transfer audio over in that method, the audio from your MacBook Pro will use USB without any trouble. I noticed my mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro doing this and never even noticed till I was fiddling around with it.

There are no other audio in ports on this monitor. Only one cable that does it all. The MagSafe connector (unrelated to the issue) and MDP connector, and a USB connector.

Once you got everything hooked up, you can hit up the control panel to see if the display will carry audio over your MDP, one word of caution though. After fiddling around with my newer mid 2010, my microphone on the display wasn't working properly. After changing everything back, I had no troubles.
