Product Information

  • The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with 15- or 17-inch MacBook Pro.

I love my macs no doubt about it - but the magsafe adapters make me hate apple. The magsafe is such an expensive devise and at the same time the cord is so prone to braking off where it is connected to the charger. And then you cant just buy a new cord...you HAVE to buy a whole new charger...this is both very bad for the consumer and also for the environment. I really hope apple will soon realise that this way of milking costumers is not viable in the 21th century.

So I beg you Apple: please fix the real problem and make a magsafe with a detachable cord.

This newer connector is marginally smaller and does not fit snugly into the socket on the computer. I bought two of these at the Apple Store, Regent Street which didn't work, and I was eventually advised to buy the older part number MA938B for my January 2008 MBP. Check before you buy!

After some searching around the room, I looked down to see my carpet melting and small flames beginning to lick around the cable where it enters the adapter body. Having read down these reviews just to see if I am getting the right adapter replacement, it seems that I will be paying for another very soon. I want to go and tare Apple a new one over this as had I not seen the start of this fire (say I were elsewhere in the house) it could have ended up in a disaster. Absolutely shocking. These should be recalled.

1 star for magsafe. That's great
-100 stars because everyone in the company has these and they all break within 2 years - not the 1 star for magsafe. That's great
-100 stars because everyone in the company has these and they all break within 2 years - not the power supply - the cable where it connects to the power pack.

Obviously Apple is doing a great trade in selling these - but come on - this is ridiculous, un-environmental and cheap. Apple - you are leaving customers feeling ripped off

I'm having These have to be replaced once a year, sometimes after after only a few months as the cable frays at the mag safe end. I'm having to replace it yet again as the latest one has frayed but also come apart and the insides are exposed which makes it a fire hazard. I'm about to buy my 6th one. Spend £2,000 on a laptop and end up spending £45-75 on replacing the power supply every 6 months.
