    Give up!!!

    • Written by from Brighton

Got the extreme working to replace BT Home hub 3 poor signal spot in house. Strength less than BT hub in same spot. Got an express to extend the network. Struggled so phoned apple support. Didn't fix anything same signal. So device moved about on advice from them. Suddenly the macs and iphone etc stopped recognising the network and also my airport utility kept crashing. Did everything again and again. So I have the same setup as before with better signal. Now have bought a repeater for £35, taking the two devices back tomorrow and with the £188 saved am going to spend on a weekend away to make up for the wasted one this device caused. Learnt my lesson "apples are not the only fruit." For an easy set up device it ain't.

    Waste of time

    • Written by from BELPER

I purchased this item with the primary intent to connect an existing external hard drive, which is connected to my iMac for Time Machine, and enable access to this drive across a network. Despite claiming the supported connection of a hard drive via the USB port. What isn't explained anywhere is the fact this expensive device won't support this functionality, i.e. you can have one or the other, not both. I've wasted my money and should have bought a separate NAS drive.

    Rubbish

    • Written by from Harrogate

You can't configure Airport Extreme with a web browser, only by Airport Utility, that's if it connects at all. When it does finally connect the configuration options are limited and in my case got errors. Never managed to connect to the Internet despite having several other routers connected in the past with no issues at all. Impossible to diagnose, so no idea what the problem might be. Went back to my Cisco router and was just glad to get back to a stable internet connection. Sorry Apple, but as an iMac/iPad/iPhone/Time Capsule customer this was a VERY disappointing experience. Returning for refund, and will no longer automatically buy Apple products in the future.

Not with BT and Static IP

    • Written by from Clitheroe

This does not work with BT business broadband and a static ip Address...not even trying to use either the BT business hub 3 or the Home hub (both with wireless turned off and/or in bridging mode on BH3). Nor could BT and Apple.... and I ...get it to work with a conventional modem. Probably best if you want to use BT and a static ip to steer clear of this and use BT Business Hub 3...which SO FAR does seem to work. I Still wonder why a piece of expensive kit like AE doesn't a) Have a modem incorporated. b) work with the major ISP provider in the UK and c) Is so inflexible. Perhaps "Extreme" merely refers to the price???

    vocabulary of engineers

    • Written by from London

All I want is a good router that is also user friendly, what this "AEBS" is not. I guess it is very good, by what I read in the reviews. I just couldn't install it...

The reviews are saying that the "AEBS" is very easy to install. Well, after reading about the equipment of the reviewers etc it is clear that they are deeply immersed in technology.

Apple's router is easy for them, but not for you, me and everybody else who is not a nerd.

I bought this "AEBS" to replace a BT home router 3.0. The BT router was really easy to install but I wasn't very happy with its security and performance, so I decided to pay three times more for a router that, as I found out, is good for engineers and the likes but not for ordinary people. I will return this "AEBS" and keep my BT router that, at least, talks to me...

Don't but this if you want to use the disk sharing function

    • Written by from Winchester

Don't by this if you want to share files by using it in conjunction with an external hard drive. Extremely slow and clunky performance. Completely useless. If anyone from Apple wants to refute this I'd be happy to listen.

    Not fit for task ...

    • Written by from Weymouth

I recently purchased this device. Wanted to get a replacement for a Netgear router that had started to give intermittent wireless performance. However, I was disappointed to find that this device is designed specially for use with CABLE modems, and cannot be used with ADSL broadband connection via the usual DSL filter.

Largely useless as far as I was concerned. The sales blurb should spell out this limitation! Returned to Apple... disappointing...
