Can an ethernet port linkup on the extreme base station be used for a 3TB 'Home Network Hard Drive' in the same way the USB port makes HD's wireless?
I would like to use a 3TB 'Home Network Drive' for streaming my movies and music over my wireless network. It uses an ethernet cable to transfer data (much faster than USB 2.0), and would work by plugging it into my Extreme Base Station's spare ethernet port. Will Airport Utility immediately recognise it as a Hardrive?- or is the Extreme Base Station restricted to only ready Hard Drives via the USB port? Thanks alot!

AnswerYour Ethernet-based NAS will continue to work as it does now, but you'll gain the ability to connect to it wirelessly.
The AirPort Extreme won't recognize it at anything but an ethernet device, as it's not a hard drive; it's a teeny little server.- Answered by Colin M from Chandler

is apple care available for airport extreme?

Best AnswerNo longer available.
However, if an AirPort base station is used with an AppleCare-covered Mac computer or Apple TV, that AppleCare coverage automatically extends to the base station as well. All AirPort Base Stations are eligible for 5 years of total AppleCare coverage.- Answered by Andrew H from Carmel

Is there anyway to add another wireless router to increase the range?
We moved our Airport Extreme to an area that limits my connectivity where I use wireless. Is there anyway to increase the range by maybe adding an airport express to the mix?
- Asked by Walton G from San Antonio

Best AnswerYes you can! You can use the AirPort Admin Utility to make them part of a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). The Express will act like a repeater and increase the distance you can go. Keep in mind that it would need to be placed within reach of a decent signal from your main AirPort unit to work well.

Best AnswerIt is possible. In Airport Utility app, 1. select the disk option. 2. Under File Sharing, check the box that says enable file sharing. 3. Open up finder and on the left hand side you should see your Airport Extreme under shared. This is your disk, click on it and log in. 4. Open up Time Machine Pref. and select the back up disk. This works as of Airport 7.4.2 and OS 10.6.4

Will the iPad only print to a wireless printer, or will it print to a printer connected to the Airport Express through a USB connection?
Pages app on my iPad will print to a wireless printer, but I don't have a wireless printer. I need to update my wireless router to an Airport Express and did not want to get a new printer too. I am hoping that I can print from my iPad to the printer connected to the airport Express. Currently I cannot print to the printer connected to my iMac unless I use another 3rd party app and I cannot directly print from Pages (or Numbers)
- Asked by Jeff T from Howell

Best AnswerAny Windows or Mac *computer* on your network should be able to print to any USB printer that is connected to an Airport Extreme (or Airport Express or Time Capsule).
The "AirPrint" feature in iOS 4.2 (for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad) works only with AirPrint-enabled printers, of which there are currently only a few (all from HP). iOS devices can't currently print to a generic network-attached printer in the way that PCs and Macs long have.
Apple is reportedly working on iOS enhancements that will allow iOS devices to print to any network-attached printer, but the timeframe for delivery has not been announced. There are some third-party apps that claim to provide similar functionality.- Answered by Kenneth D from Ottawa

why is airport extreme better than the router from my cable company?

Best AnswerWell there are several benefits that you receive by going with the AirPort Extreme. For one the APE offer 802.11 N wireless which is five times as fast and has twice the range.
Secondly, it has the ability to send out dual signals. This means that the fast AirPort card in your macbook will surf and the fast signal speed, and then if you have an iPod touch or an iPhone then they will surf and their max speed without interfering with your macbook.
It also has the ability to have a shared hard drive which provides a place for you to store your files remotely and then be able to access them anywhere in the house.
The AirPort Extreme does cost more money but in my opinion it is worth it. Plus is something does go wrong you get to deal with the company ranked number one in customer service instead of the cable company.
If you are worried about the price you can always look at the AirPort Extreme, these are also great I own several of them.- Answered by Brian L from Puyallup

What is the expected lifespan of an Airport Extreme?
In the past I have had several brands of router. THey cost half the price of the Airport Extreme and last around two years. I like the reliability and ease of use of the Airport Extreme, but I want to have an idea of its expected lifespan.

Best AnswerFive years minimum due to being so well-built.
If you buy one today and use it with a Mac which is covered by an AppleCare Plan, then continue to use it with a Mac purchased two years later which is also covered by an AppleCare Plan - Apple will have warrantied the base station for a total of five years. So, one can assume from this that Apple expects the average lifespan to be greater than five years.
It should and probably will last longer, of course. However, since the name of the game is speed, with the new certified 802.11n networking most users are itching to replace their older g-speed saucer shaped Extremes even though they are still working. There will undoubtedly be even faster networking 4-5 years from now.- Answered by Andrew H from Carmel

Will an airport extreme work as a wireless internet expansion if it is connected to a existing wireless router? Router>ethernet>airport?

AnswerYes. Locate the AirPort Extreme somewhere between the wireless router and your wireless computer/equipment and use AirPort Utility to setup the Extreme to extend the current wireless network. Save the Ethernet cable for another purpose.

Time Capsule - Extreme Extender?
Got a 1TB time machine connected to my old modem. Bought my first Mac 10 months ago and love it. Problem is we've just had an extension and my iphone won't pick up the wireless signal in the new part of the house. I've asked for an airport extreme for Xmas in the hope it will extend the network for my phone etc. Have I done the right thing?

AnswerAs advertised, you need a Windows computer or a Mac, wired or wireless, to set up and configure AirPort Extreme, but you can use any compatible wired or wireless device, running any OS (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android ...) on a network created using AirPort to access the Internet.
In other words: your HP laptop will do just fine to set up and use AirPort, and so will your other devices to use it.- Answered by Sabahattin G

Best AnswerYes, however it requires that you download an application to do so. I use an app called NetPortal though other applications are also available) to connect my iPhone4 to my external hard drive on my Airport Extreme. NetPortal also has very clear tutorials on how to connect, which makes it easy to do so. I use it to watch movies, view pictures, listen to music, etc etc on my phone all the time.
