For USB 3.0 connection to a Macbook Air, will one single USB connection be able to provide enough power to power on and use this drive?
Sometimes these 7200 RPM external drives require to be connected to two USB ports to get enough power to mount onto the computer.

Best AnswerOne USB port will be plenty to power the drive and migrate any data. I'm currently using this model and it has no problems getting everything it needs from either the included USB 3.0 cable or included FireWire 800 cable.

Best AnswerYou just need to make sure you format the drive into a PC/Mac compatible format. If you are transferring from a PC to a Mac, "MS-DOS/FAT32" will suffice. You can reformat through the Disk Utility application.

Best AnswerWhen used connected to USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port, the FireWire ports are not active.
When connected to a FireWire port first, the USB port is not active.
So, the simple answer is that you can use FireWire and daisy chain, but not at the same time the USB interface is used.- Answered by Mike M from Beaverton
